The New Orleans Saints made perhaps their most surprising move of preseason Tuesday when they released veteran starting left defensive end Alex Brown.

Brown, a 10-year veteran who appeared in 143 consecutive games -- the longest current consecutive games streak for a defensive end -- was among 11 players released by the team to get down to the NFL's roster limit of 80 players.
Coach Sean Payton said the decision to part ways with Brown, who played just one season in New Orleans after signing a two-year contract with the Saints last offseason, was difficult, and had little to do with the team making room for first-round draft pick Cameron Jordan.
"It wasn't that we just drafted a young player at that position," Payton said. "I think you try to factor in all the practice snaps, all the game film.
"After going through it all and also looking at the timing of it, there is still that opportunity within this next week that he'll have a chance to sign with someone else, and also the door is not totally shut if that opportunity presents itself here. But nonetheless, it was a hard decision we had to make."

Sorry to see Brown go. I wish him all the best. Now we need Jordan to cut his teeth. If he gets 3 sacks this year, that would be one more than Brown got last year. I'm concerned about all the new faces on our defense "Gel'in" into a cohesive unit that can consistently hold teams to twenty points or less. If that happens we will have a great season. If not, ...

I've always been a fan of Alex Brown's play, until the end of last year. I thought he just had a normal dip off year after winning a ring, but I guess I have to trust the coaches and the crowd here.
I hope he does well where ever he ends up.

He never won a ring with us...McCray did though

On April 7, 2010, the
signed Brown to a two-year contract.[7] He was released on August 30, 2011, after one season with the Saints

Hah, screw it then, I got him confused with Bobby McCray. I'll wait for my 500 FanCred fine in the mail. I don't know if I have enough to cover it though, I may have to take out a loan from the FanBank...
