I think we can read between the lines of that SP quote, when he says something like that -- it's quite probable that he knows about stuff that is going on within the organization, that we don't know the inner details about. Payton sometimes does that...The reporter asked him how long he thought HE would be here, and instead of answering that question, he kinda started talking about how long he thought Brees AND him would be here and able to win championships...and he clearly said "us," not ME, not how long will "I" be coach.. So it sounds to me like they are definitely working behind the scenes on making it happen, and Payton is in the loop of the discussions, it's in his mind, but obviously he can't say anything at the podium.
