Anyone agree with this about Hartley?

Saints Nation: Is Garrett Hartley More Trouble Than He's Worth? | August

I don't!!

44Champs 08-31-2011 05:06 PM

I think he makes some good points.

strato 08-31-2011 05:22 PM

K John Kasay's Post-Practice Presser 8/30/11

papz 08-31-2011 05:37 PM

I don't know if it's too late or not but if it's an option, I'd put Hartley on the PUP list to begin the season and free up a roster spot for someone that can help us. Kasay has been a solid kicker throughout his career and is more than capable of holding his own for 6 games.

strato 08-31-2011 05:39 PM

Yep..i said that the other day after we signed Kasey.

SaintsBro 08-31-2011 05:46 PM

Hartley cannot go on PUP because he has already been in camp and played in preseason.

Is IR an option?

SaintsBro 08-31-2011 05:55 PM

Yes, they could put him on IR. But then he couldn't come back this season.

My guess is that even if his leg did fly off into the bleachers back in Oakland, the Saints wouldn't actually put him on IR until much later, once they determine it can't possibly be stitched on or replaced with a bionic one. IF Hartley does go on IR, it won't be right away. They will probably give him a few weeks to heal, see how he does, see how the new guy does, see what other roster spots they might need, and then make a decision. It's not like they need to do it RIGHT NOW.

Srgt. Hulka 08-31-2011 05:56 PM

You know, we don't know what happened to Harley, at least I don't. It may be nothing, it may be a career ending injury, a freak thing. Look at Bo Jackson, one freak injury ended his career. If Hartley's made of glass, welcome to the New Orleans Saints. Seems the whole team is fragile as eggs. If we let Hartley go, something tells me we'll be sorry.

I read something like that on wiki but I wasn't sure. Bleh, oh well. I'd hate for him to come back early and miss some kicks. People are going to throw him under the bus and run him over... repeatedly.

Thats a damn good idea!!

SaintsBro 08-31-2011 06:24 PM

They can't. If Hartley was injured BEFORE training camp, he would have been eligible for PUP (think Darren Sharper last year). You can't be on PUP if you were in camp or played in preseason.

They already have; remember the missed FG against falcAints?

Everybody and their brother blamed Hartley for the Saints not winning the division, Saints not getting HFA in playoffs, etc.

My good friend Jeff..just told me Hartley out 8 weeks..not confrimed ..so we shall see.

****!

Budsdrinker 08-31-2011 10:21 PM

If he is out 8 weeks, then I would IR him. I think we could use the roster spot. Kasay is good for 1 more year.

Crusader 09-01-2011 01:27 AM

If its 8 weeks that'd b rough. The guy has been coming along fine and I still think he is the longterm solution for us.

MatthewT 09-01-2011 01:40 AM

Agreed, if he is going to be out 8 weeks then the Saints have no real choice and will have to IR him. What a shame, he is an excellent kicker.

Speedy Ron 09-01-2011 07:49 AM

i stopped reading at Grandmaster Wang

Rugby Saint II 09-01-2011 12:01 PM

It looks like he has gotten over his little case of bad kicks and now he throws his leg off. Poor guy can't seem to catch a break.

st thomas 09-01-2011 12:17 PM

if we signed kasey we have a solid kicker. hartley was coming into his own but boy is he snake bit from day one. we will be okay, we'd rather our own in there but we have 1 of the best not a martini dramatica.

As did I.

Marlboro Man 09-04-2011 06:34 AM

Injury prone and misses a lot of easy clutch kicks. If I'm the Saints, I'd start looking for another young kicker.

Jasper out of LSU was cut by Tampa...

He would be a really nice addition to the practice squad.

Cruize 09-04-2011 08:57 AM

He's been suspended. He's been benched. He's been hurt. He's been money in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. With the inactive rules in the NFL, he or that 5th safety, or that extra OLineman, or that extra LB, or that 6th WR would not be active anyway. Keep the young kicker on the 53, unless there's a rash of injuries, and give him a shot to kick this season.

Choupique 09-04-2011 04:53 PM

Some Saints "fans" tend to throw anyone under the bus on a weekly basis.

They aren't loyal fans. That must really suck.

Hartley is NOT going to be IRed, unless the injury is worse than reported, and he would be out most of the season anyway. 6-8 weeks still puts him maybe back for week 7 or 8 and, if so, they can then cut Kasay. I think they will live with two placekickers on the roster until mid-season.

Hartley signed a long-term deal before the lockout started; the Saints are not just going to cut him loose.
