2004 draft

18(18).+New Orleans Saints

*DeAngelo Hall Cornerback Virginia Tech

The Saints are ecstatic if this scenario plays out because they have their pick of the litter at cornerback. Hall and Ohio State corner Chris Gamble look to be at the top of the wish list here so either player seems to be a fit.

Other possibilities: *Chris Gamble CB Ohio State, *Marlin Jackson CB Michigan.

Assuming we keep seven again, this is how I see It
KEEPERS---
Hodge, Still has upside, detoured with injuries. 2004 make/break year.
Rodgers, Solid player, dependable back-up. Must keep
Grant, Huge upside. Wasn\'t supposed to contribute till 2004 anyway.
Allen, has potential, but clock is running out.
Ruff, good back-up. Average NFL talent, may get beat out in 2004
NEW GUYS---
1 new Veteran free-agent
1 new stud drafted

CAMP GUYS---
a couple undrafted guys, and some mid-level free-agents trying to take Ruff and Allen\'s spot.

Here\'s the way I see the situation with the defense.............

1. Darren Howard.
2. Charles Grant.
3.Jay Bellamy.
4. Fred Thomas.

Beyond those guys, if I were the coach, nobody elses job would be safe. I feel that all the other players we have on defense have not proven that they are starters in this league. And, yes, that includes Johnathan Sullivan and Tebucky Jones. I understand that there are several players on the defense that have loads of potential, but if I\'m Haslett, they would have to earn their starting roles. I will not be fooled into thinking that any of those players are going to be \"coached up.\"

I think we really need to go after a veteran MLB that is in his prime and a proven difference maker. I don\'t trust the coaching staff with a rookie. I don\'t see rookie players having that big of an impact on our defense. And Lord knows, I\'m tired of waiting on players to develop.
