Saints make final cuts get to 53!

1 Attachment(s)
Saturday afternoon was the deadline and the New Orleans Saints knew they had a lot of decisions to make regarding players that were easy to cut, hard to cut, and extremely difficult to cut. A number of players were already let go, but now it was time to get those last few names and let them know to turn in their black and gold.
Below are the final names that the Saints had to make roster moves with in order to get down to the league-mandate of 53 players for the regular season.
  • LB Nate Bussey
  • QB Sean Canfield
  • WR Andy Tanner
  • CB Terrail Lambert
  • LS Kyle Nelson
  • C Cecil Newton
  • TE Michael Higgins
  • LB Clint Ingram

So I see Issa Abdul Quddus my personal pick made it...so far good job young man

Beastmode 09-03-2011 06:21 PM

RB we are about as deep as it can get. DB, I'm concerned about depth but I think GW feels he can get decent pressure enough with this group to marginalize that concern.

Danno 09-03-2011 06:21 PM

I thought Ramon Humber was cut the other day?

foreverfan 09-03-2011 06:25 PM

I thought De la Puente was a Lightweight Mexican boxer.

strato 09-03-2011 06:28 PM

He's our new backup LG....Im glad Payton doesn't think like you;)

Ashley 09-03-2011 06:39 PM

My pick made it King

Maybe he hits them instead of tackling them??:dunce:

saintfan 09-03-2011 06:57 PM

Thrilled for Joique and a few others. Looks like LB is still the weakest spot on the team, but I remain hopeful.

CHAMPIONSHIP!

AlaskaSaints 09-03-2011 07:11 PM

A little taken-back by the Prioleu cut. Always thought of him as a decent gunner on special teams.

That's why I aint he boss, I guess...

neugey 09-03-2011 07:47 PM

So we have 2 kickers on the final roster again?!

Crusader 09-03-2011 09:03 PM

I'm surprised both Prioleu and Reis were let go and we have to new backup safties. I honestly don't know myself, are they thinking upgraded special teams with that move?

So Morgan is on IR now? I thought his injury wasn't that bad?

Or the options they have at LT. It sucks to have two roster spots tied up on a kicker.

I may be one of few but I actually like Hartley. That said, if Kasay starts clicking, put Hartley on IR and use the roster spot for a football player.

Yes IR. Shame too. I'd rather have him playing over Arrington.

Agreed! If Kasey can get over his misses, no need in wasting 2 spots on kickers... How long is Hartley supposed to be out with his hip?

8 to 10 weeks

TheDeuce 09-04-2011 01:48 PM

I'm a little surprised to see us taking two FBs... this hasn't really been a vital part of our offense, and figured we could use another player elsewhere (like TE or DE).

I think it means we plan to run the ball...

Maybe it's a sign of things to come. We have arguably the best interior line in the league, a talented group of running backs, and carrying 2 fullbacks. I've felt all offseason that we're going to run the ball more than we ever have... and I think it will be a good thing. Keep Drew fresh, let our maulers maul, control the line of scrimmage and pound the ball down their throats.

Well in a way yes, but in another no. I've thought all along that Johnson was automatic barring a season ending injury - which the calf isn't - but I think that Miller is a better fit to what the Saints and GW do in that particular position than King is.

I have nothing against King and I think that he will develop into a good player with the right tutelage, but he got pushed around pretty bad against the Titans and somehow I see that as a trend which will repeat itself.

If I had my way - I'd like to see him slim down a little and move to being a LB like he was in HS (if I remember correctly). He could develop into being a good rushing OLB with the motor he has, and, therefore, I would like to see him signed to the PS while the sturdier Miller could take his spot in the 53 if the Saints plan to keep 5 DTs on the active roster.

Hall can play like a TE, which is one of the things I took away from the Titans game. While D. Thomas has been a TE, who can play FB - I think that Hall can be the same vise versa... and more.

Seriously? She sure resembles my gal.:p
Anyway back to business. de la Puenta did not impress me at all. We do look mighty thin on the O line. And why the hell hasn't Sean brought in a LB'er? Herring is certainly not the answer. And Wilson is just so raw. For some reason I have a feeling that GB is game planning towards attacking the LB'ers. I would.
GW did a great job last year with slightly less talent let's see if he can get us back to the Superbowl.:bng:
