Who do you think has to come up big against GB?

I really think our D-Line is the key with Jordan and Junyah starting..i see this as the X factor..they have to play lights out..

What do y'all think?:bng::bng:

exiled 09-06-2011 10:49 AM

Greg Williams

jcp026 09-06-2011 10:52 AM

D-line might be the most important, but I'm more interested in the linebackers. Hoping Wilson/Casillas see more playing time than Herring/Shanle.

st thomas 09-06-2011 10:53 AM

with 3 stud running backs there nothing else to do but pound the rock till they are back on there heals then let drew bomb them into submission.
the running game is the key to winning. and when we have it going good please let coach p. not get cute with the play calling lol.

jnormand 09-06-2011 10:53 AM

Gillette is starting? I thought it was Turk and Jordon.

You might be right,,but i know Galette will see a lot of playing time..

Danno 09-06-2011 11:18 AM

Pressure... period.

If we don't have a pass rush, Rodgers will tear us apart.

Someone has to apply pressure along the front 4. We can't blitz all game and expect Rodgers to fold, he's too good. We'll need the front 4 to step it up.

Totally agree with this! Rogers needs to get a good push to collapse the pocket on Rodgers. Also the DE's need to contain cause Rodgers can hurt you with his legs as well.

Rugby Saint II 09-06-2011 11:25 AM

Like Danno said Rodgers is good. We have to be in his face and applying pressure the entire game. He is elusive and can run so our DE's need to contain him. But most of the pressure will probably come up the middle.......I hope.

Crusader 09-06-2011 11:30 AM

Brees! If we score more points then they do we should win!

SaintsBro 09-06-2011 12:44 PM

Hate to say it, but Brees continuing with the interception-itis from last year, that is my main worry right now. That's the Achilles heel -- trying to be a hero and ending up giving up the easy turnovers. Somebody clobbers a player and they cough up the ball, I can deal with that, it happens, it's part of the game. But all it takes is a couple of Saints possessions to end in those easy, gimme turnovers, the kind that are avoidable, and the Saints will quickly find themselves in a hole. If that doesn't happen, the Saints will be fine.

c4jun 09-06-2011 12:46 PM

If our defense plays like 2009 we win if they play like 2010 we are in big trouble. I'm still not sold on this defense. The Saints running game will be the key to this game. If we run it well and no turnovers the Saints will win the game.

FireVenturi 09-06-2011 01:03 PM

To beat them at home with Banners unveiling....EVERYONE has to come up big!!!!

SAINT_MICHAEL 09-06-2011 01:13 PM

I'm not counting on the D stopping them much. A tipped ball here...a lucky strip there maybe, but from what I've seen in the preseason and what I know GB's offense is capable of, Drew and company are going to have to score most times they touch the ball to win. That or special teams will need to provide a spark.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

darstep 09-06-2011 01:31 PM

Win in the trenches. A good push from our O-line to allow the guys to pick a crease, square up and bust for 5-7 continuously. That allows the play action to actually freeze somebody, keep them at home and leave the outsides one-on-one and the middle wide open for Graham/Thomas. D-line push to free up the linebackers, containment on the outsides keeping them in 3rd and long. If we control the line of scrimmage, we win easy.

SAINTSS74 09-06-2011 01:50 PM

you meen who needs to have a good game on the pack caus we are clearly the better team.

I know, right?! I hate when he does that crap. And never, ever, ever, try to run the reverse again. We are one of the worst in the league at executing it.

Ever...

papz 09-06-2011 03:21 PM

If Harper has a good game, we'll have a good shot. He's a big asset blitzing the quarterback. With Smith being out, him being able to put pressure on Rodgers will be even more important.

Unfortunately the best way to counter safety blitzes is with a stud TE, which they have.

GW will have a plan, lets hope it works.

papz 09-06-2011 03:29 PM

When Finley was healthy and playing well, he played a lot of slot too I believe. I think he'll see a lot of P-Rob and Jenkins with Vilma dropping back to help also. With them being such a spread offense, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of 4-2-5 this game... allowing Harper to attack the line of scrimmage.

I'd really hate to see Williams put Harper on Finley... that would be ugly imo.

Harper helped shut down quite a few good TE's last year. It may not be as ugly as you think.

But I do agree that we really don't have 1 player that can shut down Finley. Its gonna have to be a group effort.

I have a bad feeling we're gonna see a lot of Herring on Finley.

crawgator 09-06-2011 03:45 PM

we have to get pressure on Rodgers.. This will have to include a good blitz package.. I feel we can get to Rodgers.. If we do our defensive backs could have a big game... Main thing we need to do is control the football.. We need to take advantage of our running backs... I know this sounds strange because we are so used to quick scores, a fast break offense you might say.. But not in this game slow the pace down.. Strike deep just to keep the defense o their toes.. but to win this game we gonna need to hold the ball for 40+ mins..

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

If Graham plays well, the shoe will be on the other foot.

To answer the Strato's original question: the whole team including the staff has to come up big in order for the Saints to win, and I believe that will happen. Naturally, the DE position is under focus, because they are missing their big impact player, but it has to be a group effort, which means crisp tackling and no mental errors or penalties from the whole squad.

jnormand 09-06-2011 05:56 PM

I don't know. I'm nervous as hell about this game. The Packers are a good team. I think our offenses are close as far as ability to score...but if our defense fails to get pressure or stop the run we are in trouble. The defense needs to show up and the offensive line has to make a push.

joker-saint 09-06-2011 06:30 PM

I would like to see Turk McBride step up along with Shaun Rogers and Junior Galette. I am pretty sure Jeff Charlston will have a decent game. Maybe Aubrayo Franklin and Mitch King will have great days as well. I am very curious to see how Wiliams is ging trotate them out. Our defense is pretty deep this year. It seems like a perfct mix to keep all of the players well rested.

I remember posting that stat earlier this offseason and his numbers were top notch(top 5 I believe). But at same time, Finley is a rare breed and we didn't play many of those. I honestly don't want to find out anyhow. :?

I've also been thinking since Herring was a former safety that he has the physicality and speed to cover Finley... which would be ideal. Too bad, at least from his preseason performance, he sucks. Hopefully he proves us all wrong.

Marlboro Man 09-06-2011 09:08 PM

Colston. No more being timid going up for the ball, be agressive, no more dropping sure TD's and.......the entire D.

homerj07 09-06-2011 09:11 PM

If the D-line gets a good solid push they stop the run & disrupt the passing game, which in turn helps the DBs.

If we can hurry Rogers & stymie thier runing game we have a great chance. Our passing offense is as good (a little less w/o Moore) & our running game is/should be much better

saintsfan1976 09-06-2011 09:12 PM

It's up to the secondary.

"Coverage sack" - I want to hear it over and over and over.

WhoDat!656 09-06-2011 09:27 PM

I say Shaun Rogers.

If he can take away the Packers running game, IMO, Rodgers wont be able to beat us throwing.

lumm0x 09-06-2011 10:17 PM

Everyone. Defending SB champs in their own barn. We need pressure, we need solid tackling and coverage from our LBers, covering a tough WR corp with our secondary. We need a run game to move the chains and keep the Pack O off the field, a pass game to balance our offense and ensure long drives, QB play that limits turnovers and wears down their defense spreading it around and lastly a game plan that puts all that together from the coaches.

Make it happen guys.

This sure would be nice!

Running Game, Time of Possession...

Keep Rodgers off the field...

And, they lost some FA on the Defensive Line; and like us last year, they were limited on who they could sign.

So pound 'em, pound 'em, pound 'em...

Great point JP. They're probably a bit weak up the gut.

We'd like to introduce Green Bay to Carl Nicks, Olin Kreutz (who knows you well), Jahri Evans, Korey Hall (who knows you inside and out), Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram.

strato 09-07-2011 07:38 AM

I agree we need to geaux LSU on them..pound the rock!..and try and contain A Rod as best we can..But knowing Payton Drew will throw 50 passes..lol

Yeah, and the first play call Peyton makes is a play action for a deep pass for a TD.

papz 09-07-2011 08:55 AM

B.J. Raji is a monster... excellent penetrator up the middle. Should be a fun battle to watch.

fhotard 09-07-2011 09:43 AM

D Line and O Line need to play lights-out ball.

D Line needs to apply some pressure, and O Line needs to protect and make holes.

If those things happen, everything else will fall into place.

Outside of that, the D backs need to TACKLE!~ Quit with the launching chip shots that let guys get yards after contact!

foreverfan 09-07-2011 01:44 PM

Pounding the rock is only good if you move the football. You don't want to give these Bozoes too many tries with the football.

This should be a high scoring affair. Saints have better OL which is the difference in the game.
