Why we lost this game

Ok i am watching this game for a second time. Hats of to the saints. They did not give up and fought for 4 qtrs, despite themselves. They buried themselves at 14 - 0 and it was a battle up hill from there on. We lost to a great team in their house.

1) Wrap up when tackling - Ok the saints want to make a statement about their new look defense. Well they still lack this basic tackling skills. Way too many times players went for an ESPN highlight hit and end up being the ESPN goat on those highlight reels. No excuses here. Torrence is my example on the kick off but he is not alone. Break out the tackling dummies.

2) Drive low on short yardage - Time and time again i watched the new DL get pushed around becuse they where to high on short yardage and goal line situations. Shawn simple was moved out the way time and time again because he came out of stance to high.

3) Coverage - Ok i have to give a break here. GB has a great WR corp. and Rogers is an excellent QB. Patrick Robinson has a way to go but all in all he looked pretty good. They picked on him, took him to school and he gets a solid C grade. Get some games under his belt and we might have something there. Please check that boys cleats in the next grass game. Then you have Harper. The team he played is the reason i am not going to be too hard on him.

4) Power running game - We are not there at all still. Simple put we lost the battle in the trenches on this side of the ball also. We could not move a great defense.

5) Payton goes for it - Last And finally the key to basic football. You are on the road and playing in a game like this you take points any way possible. Sorry but i grew up hearing this over and over. If you can kick a field goal and keep the game under one possession to win you take the three! We were playing GB in GB and that's hard enough without all the excitement. (See 4 for the in-depth explanation)

AS A TEAM - There is no real reason to hang our heads on this loss. We showed great Intestinal fortitude as a team.

GB is a great team. There is no reason to believe 8 - 1 going into the week 9 game against the Falcons is not possible. With that said I am going to church to light candles that we go into that game without injuries.

For now the main thing to focus on one game at a time

Fourth down decisions, you got a half a yard and you decide pass. Full freakin yard, you decide to run!!!

Ingram in space, but not near the goal line. I would use bell on all goal line stuff from now on.

Costly turnover. Once a year Colston gives us a WTF moment. Remember, he is in the in zone a couple of years ago and fumbled trying to leap in. I won't kill him to bad. He'll be money the rest of the year!!

Bottom line, we left too many points on the field.

There naturally were some negatives, much of what Hagan already listed above. But I still feel more positive after that game than I thought I would after a loss in the season opener.

I really like how the Saints were able to keep fighting even though they had some setbacks, and that "never say never" attitude will bring lots of rewards this season.

Packers are going to be one of the very best teams this season, and losing a close game against them at their home is nothing to feel too bad about. The Saints won't be facing many teams with as much weapons as them and with a guy like Rodgers distributing the ball.

1. Trenches. GB dominated both sides.

2. Tackling. Are we really still beating this drum??

3. Minus in the turnover category usually equals a loss.

4. Hard to blame a "gambler" for going for it on 4th. Sean knew he needed points. Brees knew he needed points. The play call was weak.

5. Did not see any impact from new FA signings...

Our O line & D line are a work in progress. Much to do this week.

We missed Will Smith.

Agreed on all points ... actually this could be a great teachable moment for SP and the team. It just might bring home to the defensive players what they need to do. I know Aaron is good at picking up blitzes.. but you still got to give him a snootful as they did early on. Got to make him uncomfortable.

Don't think we will face too many teams this year with the talent GB has.
Even when we had perfect coverage Rodgers put the ball in a perfect spot where only his man could catch it. Moldy Ice can't do that in Failcan land so I still believe we take the south. A few questionable play calls by Payton, a turnover and young player mistakes were our downfall. You can't play 10 yards off of the ball against a west coast style of offense. Hopefully Robinson learns from this or he will be picked on all year long. Work on tackling and I think we will be fine.

We lost to the world champions in their house. I predict that we will win a game or two before the season is over.
