Time for Ingram to Shine!

If we can run the ball effectively, we win, in my estimation. We have an all star backfield. Let's use it. It'll help keep Brees upright too.

lynwood 09-15-2011 03:17 PM

I agree but will our O-Line be up to the task. I really hope we don't get into any situations where we need one yard.

Cruize 09-15-2011 03:49 PM

As I and many have said before, give Ingram or whoever lines up in the backfield more than one carry or play at a time. Let them get a rhythm and get into the flow of the game.

strato 09-15-2011 03:51 PM

I totally agree ..Give Ingram 15 carries... P.T 15 and Sproles 5 to 7...and we win...Block Dammit!

Crusader 09-15-2011 04:23 PM

Give Ingram 20 and Thomas 10 then I'm with you.

73Saint 09-15-2011 04:30 PM

No, give PT 20 and Ingram 10...what I saw from PT Thursday leads me to believe he has something to prove...

Rugby Saint II 09-15-2011 05:46 PM

Maybe we should have labeled this time for the O-line to shine. Whoever is behind them ought to shine just fine.

jcp026 09-15-2011 06:02 PM

Strato's right! Give Thomas 15, Ingram 15, and Sproles 5. There are still plenty of plays to mix in screens and motioning Sproles out of the backfield.

Going to be tough to run against the Bears; get the backs into some open space with screens, and keep Thomas/Graham close as a dump off; that'll shut em up...

At least keep Urlacher/LBs occupied slowing the blitz...

Michael Turner had 100 yards on just 10 carries in week 1.

hitta 09-15-2011 07:01 PM

It was really ridiculous that some of the media criticized our running backs after the GB game. I even heard one dude already calling Mark Ingram a bust.... seriously wtf?

I stand corrected... Thanks for the information; makes you wonder though how they couldn't score an offensive touchdown? Besides the fact that Meg Ryan is overrated and dare I say Julio a bust?!

You know, looking at the Falcon's objectively and at what Matt Ryan has done over the years; I really don't ever see Matt Ryan winning a Superbowl unless somehow some other aspect of their team carries them. They refer to him as Matty Ice, but I have no clue as to how he got that name because he always folds in pressure situations, always putting out far less production in high profile games. Even when the Falcon's beat us last year, he didn't even come close to impressing. TBH, I'm just sick of media outlets talking about how much of a gamer he is. He really hasn't shown anyone anything, and he's praised like he's gonna be a surefire hall of famer or something.

I don't like Matt Ryan at all. He's a pretty good quarterback. Someone said in an earlier post that someone in the media already called Ingram a bust. That's dumb. It's way too early to start calling Jones a bust.

Danno 09-15-2011 07:45 PM

Time for our O-line to act like they're the pro-bowlers we expected them to be.

If so, any and all of our RB's will shine.

PT ran better thjan Ingram. It could be his knowledge of the line or playbook or whatever - he ran better. Give him the rock!! :bng:

You are right. Right now, PT is our best RB. By the end of the season it'll probably be Ingram, but right now I'd give the rock to PT without hesitation.

He will destroy Chicago. Mix it up a bit with Ingram/Sproles, but PT is the man this week in my book.

hitta 09-15-2011 08:56 PM

I think we need to spread the offense out on short yardage situations more for starters. Many people are saying that they'd put the ball in Drew Brees' hands on the final play, though have mixed opinions on that. I think PT would have been the better back for those important plays(like the goal line play) right now, though I don't think the running back was the problem on that play, the line just simply got beat.

TBH, I thought our running backs looked ok against Green Bay. The entire game we were playing catch-up ball, meaning we didn't really get into a rhythm with the running game(even though I still think there was an opportunity to do this and we neglected it because everything in the passing game was working); so I mean, I wouldn't be overly worried about the running game. Ingram has an incredibly bright future. You can just tell on some of his plays that he just has really amazing balance and is really hard to tackle, and he just bursts through hole like a jet.

I agree. Ingram will be good, especially in the long run... but PT is our best back. During those short yardage runs... I wanted it to be PT in our backfield. I know Payton wants to carve out certain roles for Ingram... but maybe we should ease him into the role instead of throwing him into the fire... especially in such crucial situations.

I know it's a double edge sword... if he got it, he's on top of the world. But he didn't.

Ryan is a good, high level QB better than Trent Dilfer but worse than Drew Brees but I don't think he'll ever win a SB as long as he stays with the Falcons.

Give Ingram carries, it is the only way you can speed up his progression. I want to see us feature him in the backfield.

Fleured 09-16-2011 10:49 AM

I'm not sure the offense is in question. Defense will want to shut down Barber and Forte if they are playing (like I'm gonna bother checking the injury list). If they cannot stop the Bears O, it's gonna chap my ass.

darstep 09-16-2011 11:53 AM

PT has better vision at this point. He seems to know better than Ingram, where everybody is on the field and which way to point his head and pads. Ingram will get there, but until he does, he should be breathing Pierre Thomas.

True dat... guess it's time for both to shine ...

AlaskaSaints 09-16-2011 07:27 PM

I don't care who shines as long as we make a statement.
