the New I-10 Saints Caravan Thread -- for those of you driving

This thread is not just for my guys coming from Houston, but for anyone on the roads. Lets help each other out.

So we Saints fans, I believe, do more driving than any other fan base, except maybe Green Bay. The I-10 Houston to New Orleans Caravan has to be the biggest in football. Even before the Storm, partly due to the Oil Biz, a lot of people split time between TX & LA. Houston has as many WhoDats as it does Texans fans.

I always paint a big shoe-white FLEUR DE LIS on my back window, and of course all the Saints stickers.

Another phenomenon of Saints fandom is getting "WhoDat'ed, when you drive down the road, right? "honk honk honk honk!" (big wave, thumbs up, or #1 gesture)

So, just wondering, who else is making the I-10 Saints March this weekend? Or from whatever roadway? S-Port? Mississippi? Alabama? Where you comin from?

-- anybody know speed traps or construction?
-- best place to stop & eat?
-- got a gameday road ritual?
-- show us pic of your ride, when you're all Saints'ed out.
-- if you'd like to be on the b&g phone list, pm me.

If you want some memories, read the old caravan thread, it goes back to the '09 season up to us going to the Super Bowl:

I come from central Mississippi, down I-55 to I-10, to New Orleans, but I'll be doing it tomorrow. It's probably fun to convoy like that. It kinda reminds me of going to road games when I was at LSU.

RaginCajun83 09-16-2011 01:45 PM

WOW ... I'm still living down the memories from that game (gotta love family) and that doesn't include the game itself

nevergiveup3 09-16-2011 05:50 PM

Game day on the Hwy 90 corridor from Lafayette to the Dome is always interesting.... lots of the bars along the way have out door parties encouraging fans to stop for a coke or something (wink wink) stronger..... I always spend Sunday nite in the city so cant say what its like going back but its fun heading over

Budsdrinker 10-17-2011 09:35 AM

Who's going for the Indy game? I might have an extra ticket.

It's yours!

Buds, be very careful what you let Strato give you to drink.
Remember how I looked before the Texans game. Its his fault.

We gotta sit the Colts game out, and will be watching game from Beach City, TX, (near Baytown), which is right off of I-10.

We'll also be very near our new home, (moving in in 2 weeks) which will be 1 hour closer to New Orleans, and will be minutes from I-10!

So you'll have a new stop on your way back and forth, and I'll keep cold beer in the fridge.

skymike 10-22-2011 10:02 AM

Everybody enjoy that Colts game. I know Smash and Budsdrinker will be there. drive cool!

Budsdrinker 11-03-2011 04:22 PM

Alright. Who's heading over this weekend?

skymike 11-03-2011 06:29 PM

John, we're doing a FLYING night TRIP! I have a gig tomorrow night, but its real close to my place, and I have a roadie to pick up after me. So after I make my last announcement, we jump on the road, and head to Lafayette. Might stay in Breaux Bridge. Should get there by 3am.

But thanks to daylight savings time ending, it'll be 2am!

Nice 6 hours of sleep, then ITS ON!

Budsdrinker 11-04-2011 10:11 AM

We'll be in the usual spot by Allegros for 10 Sunday morning

skymike 11-04-2011 04:22 PM

We'll pop by. I like that spot!

skymike 01-04-2012 07:13 AM

lets raise hell

Saints / Lions Playoff Game:

1. shoe-white marker, check.
2. car flags, check.
4. hotel, working on it.

Looks like some of the Houston area chapter of WhoDat Nation will be caravaning Saturday Morning. Dress your car up crazy & write "Hou-Dats" somewhere, so we'll know where you're coming from.

Im leaving Old River (I-10 at Lost/Old/Trinity River Bridge) (East of Houston) around ??? 9am? maybe later, since we're all going to be up so
late.

Will see some of you in New Orleans.

Ok...... stupid question...... what are you using on your windows? We drove from Dallas to the Atlanta game few weeks ago and I bought black shoe polish...... apparently it's not the same stuff I used as a kid! Could hardly see it and by Alexandria we washed off the remains at a gas station.

Next..... good luck on a hotel..... the freaking LaQuinta is $379 on Saturday night......

Also wondering if anyone has picked up tickets at Will Call before a game? Doesn't open until 4:00 which scares me..... thinking of getting in line about 3:00???? Anyone done this before, do we need to get there earlier???

Yes. Get in line early. People found out about this trick of going to the will call line and buying tickets that were returned from the visiting team or that no one picked up so the lines are sometimes long hoping on the chance of an available ticket.

RaginCajun83 01-04-2012 08:48 AM

Leaving Houston at 8 am Saturday morning, returning at 6 am Sunday morning .... turn and burn trip this time

Im using a glass marker. The brand name is "Speedball,"
and I got it at an art supply store. They come in all colors, so I got white, black, and GOLD!

I knew this weekend would be another episode of New Orleans Hotel (and parking) Hell. No surprise there. We're looking to stay on the BestBank, or even somewhere out of town, like in the River Parishes.

fhotard 01-04-2012 09:45 AM

I'll be driving in from FL on Friday.
Booked the hotel about 6 months ago because Saturday is my 40th b-day... wanted to get back home to LA to celebrate the milestone.

Now, all I want for my birthday is a Saints win! Followed by several more in the coming weeks.

RaginCajun83 01-05-2012 08:37 AM

Had a make a few minor changes to travel plans but all is a go now. Oh I can't wait to be in the dome for the first time all season on Saturday

OK Mike, got the Speedball and the flag, what's next? LOL

skymike 01-05-2012 03:11 PM

good work Hulka. now you're set to join the mass migration of WhoDAts. I think we're the biggest traveling fan base in football. Lets see, you're coming down from NWLA friday. We're coming up Saturday morning, trying to be in town around noon, rest for a few minutes, and then the party begins. Will see you there.

Staying in the GARDEN DISTRICT!!!!

skymike 01-06-2012 04:52 PM

CANNOT WAIT TO GET ON THE ROAD!!!!

Srgt. Hulka 01-06-2012 05:17 PM

I'm already on the road Mike!!!! I-49 headed south!! I can't get there fast enough!!!

AsylumGuido 01-06-2012 05:39 PM

Srgt. Hulka 01-06-2012 06:45 PM

skymike 01-06-2012 06:52 PM

Im offline till monday morning.... see yall in real life!

OldMaid 01-06-2012 06:54 PM

All of you going, have fun. Be safe.
Enjoy.
The rest of us, like me, are there in spirit with ya'll and will be watching.
Everybody else, wherever you live, show your Saints spirit too.

Go Saints.
