Joique Bell

Did we just release him? He has an interesting tweet. Life throws a lot of curve balls at you, you just have to roll wit the punches

Ashley 09-20-2011 03:15 PM

Huh, maybe he just found out he has a STD? That's what he was talking about on the "High school network"

Danno 09-20-2011 03:19 PM

Maybe he's the odd man out with Will Smith coming back?

Odd, you'd think we'd wait until the last minute to release someone.

Ashley 09-20-2011 03:21 PM

I think he's safe, going to be a fullback

Budsdrinker 09-20-2011 03:22 PM

I can think of some other choices to make but I guess they will try to stick him on the PS but with some teams looking for RB's that's a big risk passing him through waivers. If he has been released. This is just speculation based on his tweet.

papz 09-20-2011 04:44 PM

Unfortunately it's a numbers game. Maybe he's a little depressed that while he made the team, he hasn't had any snaps. It's unfortunate but at least he's collecting a game check.

The league minimum is what??? $425,000/year??? Surely, I would not be depressed with a $425,000/year paycheck. :(

Well if he was cut after week 2 he'd only get 1/8th of that salary, which is still $53,125. Not bad at all.

homerj07 09-20-2011 07:57 PM

Can never tell. Maybe he was just waxing philosophical

not sure on this... but if he made the regular roster, is his salary not guaranteed for the year?

The Dude 09-20-2011 10:07 PM

People on the other board are on suicide watch over this. IT is a tweet, for all we know he could have had a rubber break or something. Lets not jump to conclusions until something is confirmed. Chances are he will be the odd man out when Ivory comes back anyway, but we don't know anything for sure yet.

Nope, only vested players. I think it starts at four accrued seasons in the NFL, probably with some other qualifiers.

here it is...

Refresher on the "vested veteran" guarantee
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 31, 2010, 8:51 AM EDT
Every year at this time, we begin to eyeball NFL rosters for veteran players who could be cut due to the reality that, if they are on any team as of Week One, their full base salaries become, as a practical matter, guaranteed.

The rule comes from Article XXIII of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which provides each player having four or more seasons in the league with a one-time right to “termination pay.”

If a so-called “vested veteran” is on a team at the start of the season and thereafter is released, he has the right to collect the balance of his base salary for the season — even if he later signs with another team.

Each player may do this only once in his career.

For vested veterans signed after the season starts, the available termination pay drops dramatically. Each player is entitled to the balance of the first 25 percent of his base salary or one week’s pay based on the minimum salary for players with 10 or more years of service, whichever is greater.

The CBA also permits a team to disqualify a vested veteran from receiving termination pay, if the team sent a written warning to the player regarding his failure to exhibit a level of good-faith effort that can be reasonably expected from an NFL player — and if the player thereafter failed to exhibit such effort. We’re not aware of anyone ever relying on this defense; as a practical matter, a vested veteran who isn’t getting the job done gets cut before the season starts.

Then again, some players are regarded as too important to the team to cut, even if they are lollygagging. In this regard, the Bucs may want to think about sending a written warning to defensive end Stylez White, whom they apparently believe isn’t working hard enough in practice. If he continues this trend and ultimately doesn’t play well enough in games, the Bucs could cut him and then try to block his entitlement to termination pay.

Budsdrinker 09-21-2011 07:16 AM

We'll know today for sure when Will Smith's roster exemption is over.

Cruize 09-21-2011 07:35 AM

The guy is good enough to play and contribute on most teams in the NFL. With all the injuries last year and with all the uncertainty around Ivory, I don't see them cutting him until they have too. I hate the inactive rule. Teams are paying 53. Let them all dress if healthy.

Budsdrinker 09-21-2011 10:45 AM

Well it looks official. Holder with CBS and Adam Caplann are reporting that Bell has been waived so that Smith can be activated. Hopefully we can resign him to the PS but I believe he will be picked up by another team.

Well that sucks..Hartley cost another job..

[QUOTE=strato;332508]Well that sucks..Hartley cost another job..[/QUOTE
that s what chaps my ass, hartley just sits back and gets his on injury list and this guy bell busted his rocks everydown he got in there and most likely went back in way ahead before he was healed up, in fact i know this guy bell was limping through games and still carrying people for yardage. also could it be that ivory ready to get back to practice and start taking live bullets?u know bell is getting pounded by gws defense everyday.

saintfan 09-21-2011 11:30 AM

Sad if accurate, but we have a bit of an embarrassment of riches at RB. Joique was low man on the totem poll.

73Saint 09-21-2011 12:27 PM

He was released to make room for Will Smith's roster spot. I saw it on the Bless You Boys app for Android, bout 45 minutes ago....

darstep 09-21-2011 12:31 PM

Looked like the FB's were getting more work than Bell was. Seems like Bell has more worth than those guys, but Bell wasn't seeing the field at all. Hopefully he's still available if we somehow end up infected again at the running back position.
