Jake loses the Super Bowl for Panthers

It was an exciting ending for sure, but when you play as bad as Jake Delhomme did in the first half, there is no where to go but up. I was at a friends bar where there was plenty of betting going on. We even bet on the coin toss. But, that wasn't the strangest bet of the evening.

After watching Jake throw incompletion after incompletion, we decided to bet when ol' Jake would finally complete a pass. At one point I think Jake was 1 for 9 for 2 yards. Jake seemed confused for the better part of the game. He dropped back and held the ball for what seemed like 30 seconds allowing the Patriot's defense ( which isn't known as a sacking machine) to sack him time after time. One of those sacks created the fumble which led to the touchdown that cost the Panthers the game.

Sure Jake was able to complete some good passes later on in the game, but when your completion percentage was 11% in the first half, it's hard to overcome that. For the record, Jake had a completion percentage on the day of 48%.

Jake was almost the come back kid. But when the QB is the reason you are having to come back, I don't know how good of a thing that is. Jake packed all of his stats in 1-quarter of football and when you're playing a team like the Patriots, that just ain't gonna cut it.

Maybe Cinderella will get to dance at the ball again, but for now, the Panthers will go home in a pumpkin.

Jake seemed to be all smiles when interviewed on ESPN after the game. I guess when you never expected to be in the super bowl it doesn't hurt as bad. But, as Ron Jawrorski said, when Delhomme wakes up in the morning it will probably hit him that he just lost the super bowl.

In any event, my team didn't make it to the super bowl this year, but the look on Jake's face when the game winning field goal went through the uprights made me almost as happy.

Jake showed more heart last nights game than that guy in your picture there will ever DREAM of showing. Damn this feels good to watch you guys whine!! He was CLEARLY MVP of the panthers last night and of the game if they pull it out.

MVP, you say? Just another QB that lost a super bowl. Hey, at least Trent Dilfer won one?!?!

I thought that two mistakes cost the Panthers last night.
1. Jake calling timeout at the 20 yard line with 1:45 left in the game. You couldn\'t run that much time off and score if you tried to. He basically gave the Pats and extra 30 seconds.
2. Kasey\'s kick out of bounds. STUPIDEST PLAY OF THE GAME.

If I had to point to a mistake or two that actually made a big difference in the game, those two were it.

I would like to observe that all of this \"Delhomme sucks\" sort of language from the \"Dreaming of long showers with Brooks\" crowd doesn\'t change two key facts.

1. Delhomme was in the superbowl.
2. Even if Delhomme sucks, it\'s doesn\'t make Brooks a better QB.

BMG --

Nowhere did I say that Jake sucks. I simply told what Jake did for the ENTIRE game. You know how that works, right? You know how folks like to point out ALL the flaws in a QB\'s game.

I thought you\'d be the first to point out how terrible Jake looked in the first half and how long he held on to the ball. But, with a name like \"BrooksMustGo\", I guess your agenda is out there for the whole world to see and we will never get a fair post on the QB subject from you.

If getting to the Super Bowl and losing it means you are a loser should we include the names of Dan Marino, Jim Kelley, Drew Bledso, Rich Gannon, Fran Tarkinton , Steve McNair? And should we exempt those who lost a Super Bowl and came back to win at a later date like Len Dawson, John Elway and Johnny Unitis?

NOTICE--A Fair Post from BMG on the QB subject

Here are some things I\'ve fairly observed about Aaron Brooks

1. About 4 games a year, Brooks really lights it up and throws for HUGE yards and is the reason the Saints win a game.
a. Of these four games, 2 will be 4th quarter comebacks
b. 2 games will be dominant efforts from start to finish.

2. About 4 games a year, Brooks really stinks it up and COSTS the Saints the game
a. Of these four, 2 will be caused by Brooks fumbling.
b. 2 will be caused by interceptions thrown at critical times.

3. About 4 games a year, Brooks will not be a factor either way
a. 2 of them will be Deuce has an enormous game and we win.
b. 2 of them will be losses, can\'t really pin it on Brooks, but can\'t really absolve
Brooks either.

4. About 4 games a year will be coin flips on which coaching staff shows up
a. 2 of them, Haslett will kill us by going for 2 or other crappy playcalling.
b. 1 of them will be a loss on a questionable call, making us sound like fans of the
University of Arkansas (\"we wuz robbed\").
c. 1 of them will be a win on a bizarre but amazing defensive effort that brings the win.

is this guy married to brooks? he sees another qbs NAME and he freaks out like a jealous wife..

which reminds me, yall see that commercial with the ref getting screamed at by the coach.. \"where does he learn to take this abuse....\" ..

that was hilarious

I didn\'t call Jake a loser. Or Marino, Jim Kelly. or anyone else. Just Petyon Manning, but that was in another thread.

You know I\'ve had to read all year EVERY flaw that Aaron Brooks has that are posted by some members here. Never do you hear them saying anything positive about Brooks. He could throw a 60-yard bomb and run down the field and catch it and would be criticized by some for SOMETHING.

The Brooks bashers have created an atmophere where it makes the Brooks supporters want to use the same RIDICULOUS logic that is applied to Brooks and use it on the QB\'s that the Brooks bashers like.

Well, if those members are going to make me read that stuff on here, then be prepared to get a taste of your on medicine. It always taste bitter-sweet to me. How does it taste to y\'all?

Agenda much? This entire thread screams of agenda. I mean, if Brooks had thrown for 320+ yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs in ANY game we\'d be hearing about how great he is from Billy. Factor in the BEST defense in the league and it being in the Super Bowl and I don\'t care what his completion percentage was he played quite well. Especially considering Jake carried the team. Where was that running game that got them to the Super Bowl? I didn\'t see much of it. A couple of big runs on Patriots breakdowns, but that\'s about it. By the way Billy, after what was definitely a bad start Delhomme\'s completion percentage was 62%.

One word: AGENDA. There is no doubt in my mind now that you are a Jake hater and clearly look at Brooks with skewed perspective. Brooks fumbles three times in a game and it\'s the receivers fault for dropping this pass or that one. Delhomme throws for 320 yards and 3 TDs, brings his team back on huge scoring drives TWICE late in the game, and it is HIS fault they lost? AGENDA.

And in the same breath, just because was \"in\" the Superbowl, that doesn\'t make Brooks a bad QB. I\'ve always wondered, where\'s the connection? There isn\'t any!

I just asked a question , I didn\'t say you called anyone a loser.

As far as Brooks goes, he exceded my expectations of 5 - 11 so give him a bonus!

William? Care to comment on my post or are you waiting for Saintfan to come in and save you from the big bad Whodat?

Don\'t expect that to happen. Here\'s what your buddy in the SUnshine Club had to say about Jake:

\"They had no running game and their line wasn\'t blocking very well at all, and Jake kept comin\' back. In my opinion, had it not been for Jake the Panthers would have been out of that game early in the 3rd quarter...game over. \"

\"I\'ll go on record and say that Jake Delhomme is one hell of a football player.\"

\"Had the Panters won that game (and Jake didn\'t loose it for \'em) there\'s no question who the MVP of the Superbowl would have been. \"

\"Finally, in a game that was supposed to suck, I think it was one of the best Superbowls I\'ve ever seen, and Jake is the guy, in my opinion, that made that happen. He just woulnd\'t let his team lose. For those of you who have stubbornly supported Jake, let me say I still think Brooks should be the Saints QB, but as I\'ve said before, I\'m all about credit where credit is due, and Jake Delhomme deserves a LOT of credit. More than winning or losing yesterday, Jake proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he belongs in the NFL as a starting QB. I\'m still glad the Panthers lost, but I have a new respect for Jake Delhomme. \"

Billy? Billy? <crickets chirping> Another owned picutre?!?! Two in one day? That would be a record even for you BC.

Only Billy,

ROFLMAO

\"That was the toughest team that we\'ve played all season,\" Brady said. \"They made some really big plays. Jake Delhomme threw the crap out of it, which you don\'t see very much on our defense.\"

The compliment hardly was consolation for Delhomme, who completed 16 of 33 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. His 113.6 passer efficiency rating actually was better than Brady\'s 100.5.

ROFLMAO

No comment from the great BillyC? He doesn\'t want to backup his statement that Jake single-handedly lost the Super Bowl for Carolina with his 113 efficiency rating, 323 yards, and 3 TDs? Billy? <crickets chirping>

You da man Billy .

Delhomme\'s performance will go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever in a losing effort. However, it\'s the winning team that\'s most always remembered first.
