Frustration boils over in defeat

ST. LOUIS — An afternoon of frustration reached a climax in the final minutes of Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and St. Louis Rams for Saints Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks.

Nicks and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer exchanged words on the sideline in the closing stages of the Saints’ 31-21 loss to the previously winless Rams in the Edwards Jones Dome.

“Basically, it was just a misunderstanding,” Nicks said after the game. “At the end of the day, if I did have a problem, it’s going to stay in-house no matter what.”

When asked if it was just frustration that was building throughout the game, Nicks said, “Absolutely. When you lose a game like that, it hurts. I let my emotions get the best of me, that’s all I can really say about that.”

I can't find any stories on this, but I found this embedded in a story about the game. Anyone having any information on what happened, please post it up...

{There was a report on the Saints' radio network that guard Carl Nicks and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer argued late in the game and needed to be separated. Brees brushed aside any details.

"We got guys that are passionate about the game and want to win. There's obviously some fiery moments all the time. I'm not worried about anybody turning on anybody. That's not our team," the quarterback said}

Imo he shouldnt.You see a guy in trouble,you help him,yelling wont help.Put a 2man team on Quinn or Laurinaitis,maybe Graham can help blocking for a Sproles run ,whatever is needed to help the o-line.And is there any report on Brown?he left the game with a bad ankle looked like,or knee.

Sounds like a frustrating day for all. I know I yelled out a few times, why wouldn't the guys on the field?

New Orleans Saints guard Carl Nicks has heated exchange with position coach - New Orleans Saints Football NFL News - NOLA.com

While players, notably quarterback Drew Brees, drew a bright line insisting such breakdowns will not appear, there was at least one crack in the Saints' façade before the final gun. Guard Carl Nicks and offensive line/running game coach Aaron Kromer had a heated exchange on the New Orleans sideline and had to be separated.

There were myriad, naked reasons for such frustration. Facing the NFL's worst rushing defense, the Saints managed to claw out a meager 56 yards and gained only three first downs all day on the ground.

"Man, I don't even remember what happened to be honest," Nicks said afterward. "It was in the heat of the moment, I just lost my temper. I don't even remember what it was all about. It's just frustration about losing and that's about it.

"Emotions got the best of me," he added. "I apologize for making myself look dumb. I'll never do something like that again."

Brees' eyes blazed when asked how he can be certain there will be no additional fall-out from the debacle.

"Because we have a good team," he said. "We've got a good team. We've got guys who are passionate about the game, emotional, want to win. There are obviously fiery moments all the time. I'm not worried about anybody turning on anybody. That's not our team; that's not the kind of guys we have or the kind of coaches. So I'm confident we'll be able to respond from this."

That depends on the situation. If you got a bad team playing up to its potential and that still is bad the yelling won't help a bit. But we're a damn good team that played way below the opposition and then there is no problem with getting on somebody. Nicks was a beast his first year but since he has been a dissapointment. He is the biggest strongest guy on the team and still seldom manages to create any push.

It was ugly all day, best learn from it and move on. Reminded me of Cleveland schooling us at home a few years back.
