ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In St. Louis, the Saints came out flatter than an fried ravioli after being as high as a soufflé a week ago.

Any given Sunday is the saying the NFL likes to sell the prospect of an underdog winning against a heavy favorite and 57,000 fans saw it happen Sunday.

It’s hard to say who was more shocked, Saints fans, or Rams fans.
After a tepid first quarter, the Rams led just 3-0 when back to back plays undid the Saints.

The first was the first blocked punt of Thomas Morstead’s Saints career.

“No idea,” is what Morstead said when asked if he knew how it happened. “I don’t see anything. I just see the ball – catch it and kick it. That’s one of the things that’s key to being a good punter is blocking everything else out and just seeing what you do, so I have no idea where it came from.”

Down 10-0, the Saints started pressing and Drew Brees threw an interception on the next play from scrimmage.

“Some of the cardinal sins of football, we committed quite a few of those today,” said Brees, who spent a lot of the afternoon running for his life.
“Those include getting a punt blocked deep in your territory, right before the half and then an interception right before the half. It really gave them 14 points going into halftime, making it 17-0, when there was a time when we were on the field about to engage in a two-minute drill and the score was 3-0.

“Obviously, we gave them a lot of momentum.”
