Is New Orleans The Black Hole for Any & All RBs/CBs?
I mean, 'Come On, Man!'. Seriously.

Porter/Greer/Robinson/Patrick/Thomas/Ingram/Ivory...all missing time in some form or another over the past 2 seasons. Of course, Torrence seems to be impervious to this trend, so good on him. Hate to see anyone miss any time due to injury, as football seems to be a nasty business. Are we asking our CBs to be too physical in this defensive scheme?

And are our RBs just floppy wienies? Ingram - 85 carries then missed 2 games. Thomas has 66 carries and (knock on wood) has managed to stay healthy by virtual of Our Lady of the Worthless Miracle, but when does the wheels come off that wagon? He missed OCT, NOV, & 1/2 DEC after 46 carries last season. Ivory? With the way he runs, it's just a matter of time before he misses time (although I'd love to see him still running in our 2nd SB victory in 3 seasons), whether he's going 10-15 carries a game or 1-5 carries. It doesn't help our RBs that our OL has blown like the solar wind in most of the games this year, but these positions (at least in my humble opinion) seems to be hoodoo'd. I reckon my question is this: How can we Un-hoodoo these two positions on the roster? Any witch doctors out there?

Everybody gets hurt at some point. It's a physical game. Mcfadden has been hurt several times, does that mean he's hoodoo'd as well. Frank Gore is hurt often. RB is the most physical position to play.

IMO it may have something to do with artificial turf. No matter what they do, it doesn't give like real grass/dirt.

This isn't flag football.

This is grown man tackle football.

Oh, I got getting hit by 240-300 pound men going full speed. Folks get hurt. I get that. I simply don't remember a time in our history when our CBs and RBs were consistently missing time at the same y'all? That's all I'm saying. I've never been hit by a 245 pound man who is running a 4.6 40 in full pads, and I'd probably die if I did. Just an observation...and it was meant to be somewhat satirical (in which I've obviously failed to convey). Nothing more. And I'm venting a bit as well, as y'all are my Saints Therapy Group.

I appreciated your question, Barry. I just don't want to think about it becoming a trend for fear of it becoming a trend. LOL

I do think that SOME players have a better self-preservative, preventative-measure ethic, like Drew for instance. He is in perpetual motion with his stretching discipline and it reflects.

It does seem like our cb's and rb's go down quite a bit. G3 puts a lot of emphasis on the cb's to be physical to come up and make tackles on running plays so that may have something to do w it. And we have 3 rb's that "finish" their runs. Lots of injuries happen while fighting for extra yards.

Turf hurts.

I beleive this has a lot to do with it. It is why I am always so concerned when Drew is tackled.

Hey Barry, do you remember a time when our team put out as much effort on a regular basis as this team does?

Did you ever play any sports?

Barry from MS 11-12-2011 12:19 PM

Yep...I played football and baseball in high school, so that would make me an expert on every and all things football (if you don't know me too well, this statement is completely sarcastic). I was hurt from time to time in both sports, so I can understand that part of it. All I was doing was pointing out that over the past 2-3 seasons our RBs and CBs are missing a whole bunch of time, and I think we've established that it's due to the way our RBs run and the way our CBs are used on defense.

And Memnoch_TGP, no I do not, so a winning record is the reward for the effort. Injuries come when you're going all out, so I do appreciate the effort of our guys.
