I am TRULY disappointed

This sunday's game vs the Cons is a defining moment for the 2011 Saints, and this board has virtually no spewing vitriol or meaningful handwringing over how it might play out.

Are we bored? Too much alcohol? Overconfident?

It feels like the week before the Rams.

What is it going to take to get the team fired up if we aren't drooling for feathered carcass?

strato 11-11-2011 08:03 AM

The hate is so intense i can't think ..give me a few..

Srgt. Hulka 11-11-2011 08:06 AM

I think everybody might be tired of getting all worked up, overconfident, and feeling good about a game, just to be kicked in the head. Everyone knows we have the ability to win this game, we, at least I, am approaching this game very cautiosly.

papz 11-11-2011 08:09 AM

I think the lack of discussion can be attributed to how well both teams know each other. I think we can take overconfidence out of the equation because it's always been a tight good game btw the two teams. Before the Rams game, we along with the media(and Rams fans), were talking about how we were going to annihilate team and tear them a new butt hole.

It's just the calm before the storm.

Euphoria 11-11-2011 08:17 AM

Also the fact that we have yet to establish our identity.

KevSears 11-11-2011 08:38 AM

I think the WHO_DAT Nation is very cautious about this game. We haven't shown yet that we can dominate each and every opponent, and the loss to the Rams is like an dark cloud reminding us about how inconsistent this team has been. In my case...I'm fully aware of the implications about the game...I am, however, flat out worried!

CharityMike 11-11-2011 09:14 AM

I want to beat them so bad but like most, I am leary. We haven't shown that we can put 2 complete games together. We haven't shown that we can stop the run. We all know what there game plan is going to be. Run, run, run.

This is a tough division. No matter how good any team is, it's always a dog fight. Will the Saints team that made Tampa look good show up or will it be the team that made Tampa look like who they really are?

strato 11-11-2011 09:33 AM

OK XAN...i will bite...had to get some java in my body..lol...I think we will go in and make a statement...ok the Bucs beat them ..we shut Blout and Freeman down..ran all over the Bucs...

We need to do the same thing..RuN Run Run and then run some more..O-Line you hear that...and keep Drew clean!

Drew needs to to carve them up when he has the openings.. NO INTs Drew!....Receivers need to get open..block down field..

Jimmy Graham needs to step up..this is where he can really help solidify his premier TE status..

Run the screen !..P.T and Sproles can feast on this..

On D our front four needs to own the Falqueens O-Line and knock the crap out of Meggy...he will **** himself...LBs need to gang tackle...if Turner bust threw..hold on and wait for help..just TACKLE!

Our DBs worry me the most here..were banged up..and i hope Johnny Patrick might come in on Nickel D....get his feet wet against some good receivers..i have a feeling with our injuries at the DB spot ..we will need him later this year..

Roman...yes im talking to you...Please dont let T.G school you..pop him when you get a chance and just pressure him off the line to disrupt his timing with Meg...

And M.J...please give us some remember me shots like you have against them in the past... Most important..watch their dirty play and don't get sucked into penalties ..this is a dirty team..let them kill themselves

BRING THE WOOD!...:bng::bng:

P.S
Refs...stay out of it and let the Falqueens take their ass whipping...bet on another game!

Great plan Strat. I had my java and you saw what I came up with..lol

I am not as worried about our DB's as you though. We know the Falcants game plan. RUN. I am worried more about our inability to stop the run. We are 17th against the run and that stat is skewed by how other teams have to pass to catch up. If we let them get there running game going and get balanced, then your worry about our DB will become true.

I agree...but i think we go into this game trying to stop Turner...and make them beat us with the pass..DBs have to lockdown and play smart...I hope Darren S...comes and helps coach em...come on Benson pay for his flight..

That's basically what it will be..

nutria 11-11-2011 10:53 AM

I remember many years ago after a Hail Mary pass defeat by the dreaded and hated Falcoons having to walk all the way down from the nosebleed section amidst 40 or 50 Falcoon fans and having to listen to their BS for 15 minutes. I hope we destroy the Falcons and take them out of play off contention. After the game is over I hope the city of Atlanta burns to the ground.

pumpkindriver 11-11-2011 11:53 AM

Hard to put a label on how I feel about this game, I'll just say I feel confident that we can and will win it in the end. While the old adage, "on any given Sunday....." rings true, it usually doesn't apply to the foul-cons. I just wanna see Mattie Icemilk flat on his back gasping for air as one of our DB's goes into the endzone with a pick6.

Matt Ryan isn't very accurate on medium to long passes so I'm not too worried about the DB's. The pass rush, however.....

saintfan 11-11-2011 12:45 PM

We need to blitz their left side like their's no tomorrow. We need to get Jimmy and Marcus involved EARLY and run that bubble screen 'til we (they) puke.

neugey 11-11-2011 01:06 PM

It's definitely an important game and the fans will certainly be loud. I just can't worked up for it until gameday.

I just hope we don't over-blitz if it isn't effective. If our blitz is working like it did against the Bears, great. Otherwise just send 3 or 4 most of the time more often.

Is that all you remember? I remember both the good and the bad of this series:

- The terrible 62-7 beatdown the Saints took in Tulane Stadium. It was my first year as a ticket holder.

- Big Ben 1.
- Big Ben 2.

- The absolutely sweet 45-17 shellacking the Saints put on the Falcons in the Georgia Dome in 2003. By the end of the game, the Dome was only had WhoDats left.

- The game in Atlanta in 2006, Saints 31-13, that had Vick leaving the field
giving Atlanta fans the finger.

- The bitter battle in Atlanta in 2009 against Chris Redmond with a game where the Saints had their undefeated season challenged until the absolute end of the game with a Vilma interception.

- And just last year, in Atlanta, keeping the Falcons out of the winners circle for the division by beating them in the Georgia Dome 17-14.

I was in the stadium for each of these. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

But from an analytical standpoint, this isn't a much a rivalry as it looks. Check out the bottom of the series chart here:

Since the Sheriff, Drew Brews, moseyed into the Big Easy, the Saints are 8-2. Would be 9-1 except for Hartley. The Saints have beaten the Falcons 4 out of 5 years in Atlanta, and is one of only 4 teams to plunk losses on Ryan at home in his career (Green Bay, Philly, and Denver are the others).

It'll be close. But if the defense can shut down the running game, and not give up the big play, we still have superior offensive firepower and should go a long way to locking the division down.

I was at Joe Robbie/Sunlife/JLo Stadium watching the Patriots and Dolphins game go in to overtime and looked at the scoreboad to see that Saints/Falcons score in 2003 and took a picture of it.

The Patriots won with Brady hitting Troy Brown for an 80 yard touchdown. I think it was the first play of overtime.

Halo 11-11-2011 04:02 PM

DIE Falcons DIE!

spkb25 11-11-2011 04:26 PM

its hard to win on the road. They're pretty good at home. We have to run the ball. Stat this morning I heard on ESPN Radio- 6-0 when we rush for over 100 yards, 0-3 when we don't. Pretty good idea what we need to do.

No turnovers.
limit penalties
run the ball for over 100

spkb25 11-11-2011 04:27 PM

Oh and **** THE FALCONS!

saintsfan1976 11-11-2011 04:31 PM

A repeat of last week's running attack would be great.

LOL...

NOW WE'RE TALKING SAINTS VS. FALCONS!

arsaint 11-11-2011 05:26 PM

We win Sunday. I worry more about the rematch.

Saints - Falcons visitor always seems to have the upper hand...

RockyMountainSaint 11-11-2011 05:32 PM

Saints Rule!

Falclowns SUCK!

Happy?

FinSaint 11-11-2011 05:51 PM

It's funny how the number one thing that probably most of us are wary of with the Failclowns is Turner and the running game - and still the team gave up their whole draft to get Foolio so that they would "spread the field" during this season.

I watched their first game and I'm not sure they even tried a pass beyond 30 yards, let alone complete one.

Blank, Dimitroff & Smith.... what a sorry bunch of fools! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...ng/lol-031.gif

Fin, I think they've built a very good team from top to bottom. Julio will take pressure off of White and open things up underneath for Gonzalez.

Julio is a great kid. He played HS football right down the street from me.

I don't like them on a rivalry level, but I respect them and what they've done.

GeauxForMore 11-11-2011 07:08 PM

I hate the *******.......See I hate them so much I hate to say the name.

Oh, they try, but 30 yds is the limit of Noodle-Arm Ryan's ability to throw the ball!

They aren't opening up a damn thing until they get a QB. Right now they have a glorified (media) bus driver. We've seen how far 'skid britches' (thanks again Hulka) can take them. That's it. There is no more.

homerj07 11-11-2011 09:35 PM

Big Game - for both teams. We both need a win. Which Saints team shows up??

The one last week against Tampa - the onle that bee-atch slapped the Bears OR will it be the POS team that showed up against St L (Y do they have our frippen number???)??

Somewhat better, but I sense restraint. Pretend your a republican candidate at a debate: red meat for everyone!

I wonder if we are really going to miss Vilma. I wonder if our o-line will realize it hurts less to hit first. I wonder if Brees will look before throwing the check down. I wonder if, three years together, our front seven can pronounce "cutback." Does 3rd and 10+ mean DBs play 12 yards off the receiver? Will any defensive signal mean "man" to some and "zone" to others. Will the refs pay attention, or will white and jones escape drawing pass interference calls when pushing off the defender. Will payton show the imagination of bread mold in the red zone.

All very good questions. I especially liked the bread mold one.

I'm not questioning their work overall, because I do agree with you that they've build a very good team while overcoming some very difficult obstacles in the process (f.e. Vick), but I do think that it was a serious miscalculation to basically give up their whole draft for just one player, because they had many other holes to fill also.

And Dimitroff himself said in an interview on draft day that they chose this approach because Foolio was the one player in the draft who they felt would make their offense complete and allow Matty Lice to have the option of stretching the field, which had been one of the bigger criticisms made against the Failclowns offense over the past couple of seasons... and I guess they saw it as one of the bigger reasons to why they went down in the playoffs last time around.

Trading away your whole draft for one single player is a gamble at the best of times, and it usually doesn't really work out... a concept the Saints' fans are more than familiar with.
