Former Saint Ninkovich

Former Saint Rob Ninkovich, now an OLB with the Pats has had a ProBowler type game tonight...

In reflecting on the decision to let Fujita walk, do you think the Saints Braintrust has a weakness in evaluating/scouting defensive talent?

Euphoria 11-13-2011 10:45 PM

No I don't think that at all.

We got some pretty good Defensive backs of late.

The only area we are struggling at is DE and OLB.

The Dude 11-13-2011 10:47 PM

NO. I think the money is being spent on offense. We have as much talent on D as we decided to spend money on. When you have a Brees to pay, a Bush, and a high paid guard to name a few that only leaves so much to spend on defense. (yes I am aware we do not still have Bush, but we were paying him until this year).

Ninkovich had some serious knee issues and Fujita wasn't worth half of what he got.

So if Fujita isn't worth what he was paid, would you extend that same criticism to Will Smith?

I would agree, ..Just when Im about to start a thread a week or two ago about how disappointed I am in Smith he had a good game.. To far few and inbetween for me. Im not a fan of Smith, I think its time for a real cap at the end.

jeanpierre 11-14-2011 12:10 AM

I find Smith's stats come in bunches...and his pass rush has definitely declined...

I can see your point and agree with you here.

No not relly in theis case. We couldn't fully use his skillset in our 4-3 defence. Playing OLB in the Patriots 3-4 is a whole lot different.

Is someone getting giddy over Rob Ninkovich who starts on the worst defensive in the NFL and played against one of the worst offenses in the NFL? I'm sure he'd a make a world of a difference here.

Hey, I got an interception and I play for the New England Patriots! I'm good! Hey "Saints Braintrust", you guys are idiots! You must be regretting that decision everyday... even after you won your Superbowl while I've been bouncing around the league.

It's been a looong time since we had Ninkovich ... maybe even the Haslett years. No worries.

Yep- and I said this before, I think this is his last year with us

jnormand 11-14-2011 07:13 AM

I don't think so. You know we may have a couple late bloomers....Bussey and Romeus. Who knows maybe next year both of them will upgrade the LB and DE positions. Here's hoping.

I'll let you decide, I already know the answer...

Saints defensive end Will Smith has agreed to a new six-year contract extension that could be worth up to $70 million, a league source said Wednesday afternoon.

The deal includes $26 million in guaranteed money.

The deal will make Smith the third highest-paid defensive end in the NFL, behind Minnesota's Jared Allen and Indianapolis' Dwight Freeney.

RaginCajun83 11-14-2011 08:21 AM

WOW ... didn't realize they were paying Smith that much, hopefully these young guys develop so the Saints can unload that god awful contract to resign Drew and the rest of the core players to longer deals

strato 11-14-2011 09:42 AM

Really happy for Ninkovich; he had a series of misfortunes with injuries before we had to let him go. Good to see he's somewhere playing, even more so starting for a winning team. I liked that we drafted him all those years ago, and I felt he could have helped us out somewhere along the way. Just as long as he don't beat us then I am good and with no worries. Good job, Rob.

QBREES9 11-14-2011 11:01 PM

He had career game. Good for him.

That's not the only awful contract we have on the books on defense...
