IMO, Saints should play the veteran RBs & let Ingram watch and learn

The Saints, meanwhile, have a stable of running backs to choose from to complement Brees and the passing game. Either rookie Mark Ingram or second-year pro Chris Ivory will be inactive despite being healthy, with the other joining veterans Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles on the active roster.

Wow, they just let anyone write articles these days. Why would you not want Ingram to get touches and learn the speed of the game. Yea were going to just bench one of our 1st round picks.

frydaddy 11-26-2011 12:49 PM

Yeah I'd rather see ivory right now. Mainly because I think either he or possibly, if the value is right, pt will end up being traded next year.. ideally I'd rather it be ivory, but without much of a resume I don't think they'd get much for him.. here's hoping he's healthy, active and effective the rest of the year. Then maybe sometime next year we see a Chris ivory for Rocky mcintosh trade? Yeah, right Haha I know wishful thinking. That would mean the FO finally decided upgrade the olb spot, fat chance.. still, I can dream

B_Dub_Saint 11-26-2011 01:03 PM

No offense towards you whodat I just thought the article was saying that.

Ingram led the entire NFL in 3rd and 4th down conversions before hurting his heel. I don't understand why anyone would want to sit a player that productive.

As the playoffs approach we'll need a runner like Ingram, so I'm against any sort of red-shirting him for the remainder of the season.

Earl Campbell wouldn't have either. That play was over at the snap.

WhoDat!656 11-26-2011 02:10 PM

True. Should have audibled out of it or Brees should have faked the hand off and rolled out and probably would have walked in.

Euphoria 11-26-2011 02:12 PM

RB's don't learn by watching... they learn by reps and lots of them.

homerj07 11-26-2011 04:36 PM

Good stats for the head to head section

strato 11-26-2011 05:26 PM

If Ingram keeps running into the backs of the O-Lineman...then sit him and let P.T... Ivory and Sproles run...we aren't jacking around it crunchtime!..Not that the boy won't be good..just we need production now!

When you two get done with your hug and ground yourself for a second, please tell me what logic it is to give Ivory the nod over Ingram. Keep in mind I like all 4 of our backs and am not enamored with any one of them.

Its easy my man...here is some simple math for you to digest oh and a bonus vid for your enjoyment..

Chris Ivory stats..

Games played 14

Att Yds avg long

158 801 5.1 55

Mark Ingram
Att Yds Avg long
93 340 3.7 20

Is this logical enough?

We spent the pick(s); let 'em play and let the chips fall where they may...

There is enough film on Ivory and PT if someone wants to trade, most teams are picking up the Saints' que and getting rookie FA or late round picks (Giants got Da'Rel Scott and his 4.3 in Round 7!

Don't expect a trade of PT, though the contract is a little high, it's not that bad...

Ivory would yield more and I'd rather keep PT's experience...

ingram is just better than ivory and pierre

theres no other way around it. after only 10 games we know who our best running back is

with the game on the line which running back will get the ball? ingram already did game 1.....hes been our 4th qtr and short yardage back all season

that means that the coaching staff already has the most faith in him to get the job done when we need it

Done.

It's like trying to pick your favorite kid here... If Ivory could stay healthy, and play the way we know he can, we don't even draft Ingram? Just a thought.... I love Ivory, but I think you gotta go with Ingram. Ivory came into the season, on the edge of IR... Again....

On another note, I saw yesterday, that college career stat comparisons, Ingram actually had better numbers than Trent Richardson... That's pretty darn good....

darstep 11-28-2011 11:03 AM

PT should be getting the bulk of the carries.
Week 11, and I'm still waiting for Ingram to break it outside and maximize a run.
He's still running up the backs of his blockers and losing forward momentum.
He's still getting hit square in the chest and driven back at the end of his runs.
I think he'll be OK, but until then, PT should be getting the bulk of the carries.
PT follows his blockers better and finishes his runs going forward, not backward.
Isn't it great having to make a choice between good, gooder, and better?

Rugby Saint II 11-28-2011 12:52 PM

The highlight reel on Ivory was awesome. I hope the other teams around the league get a copy of it because his inability to stay on the field has lowered my expectations. I love PT and what he brings to the game. Sproles has been the best pick up of the off season. Ingram gets the tough yards and has a very high ceiling. Ivory runs like a beast. Tough problem to have. Remember we drafted Ingram before we brought in Sproles to fill Reggie's spot.

subguy 11-28-2011 03:59 PM

Nice highlights...but obviously highlights are the best of the best. I still think Ingram has to get the nod. Once again I have said a bunch of times it is a great problem to have as oppossed to rummaging through the bin to find backs like last year.

But that's the thing, is a guy durable?

I bet Detroit is not only going to bolster their running game with an OL and a RB in the draft, but their gonna start looking to replace Stafford, who can't play a full season...
