Why I'm falling out of love with the NFL (slightly)

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Several calls tonight - the roughing call on Eli, the "late" "hit" out of bounds on Porter and hitting defenseless receiver on our safety were each about as poor as I've ever seen. Ever. It seems as thought the refs ...

Why I'm falling out of love with the NFL (slightly)

It seems as thought the refs aren't allowed to trust their eyes anymore - if it's close, CALL IT.

In an already violent game, I'm all for safety but it's becoming ridiculous.

And as I watch Brandon Jacobs taunt our entire defense in the endzone (without a flag...)

Load of bull...

I agree. Can't stand how they continue to sissify (yeah, sissify) the game in the name of "safety". They should have the qb's in pink tutu's for as much as they baby them

It's not even that. Look, if the hadn't evolved the NFL would be a league of players like Suh who's man objective seems to be shortening the career of every player he come in contact with.

I get it.

BUT - why the seemingly automatic reaction to heavy hits with a quick flag so often?

If a guy goes over the middle, does he get a free catch now?

I mean they don't mind spend 10 minutes reviewing replays

This entire year of officiating has been total crap period. The option to not be able to overturn a major penalty is stupid. It needs to be implemented.

As much as I can't stand Steve Young, he said it best, "the rules today do not allow teams to play defense"

Amazing you can powerslam a RB long after his forward progress is done, but you can't hit a WR with your shoulder pads while he's trying to bring in a ball.

I'm good with no leading with the helmet or hitting a receiver that is airborne, but c'mon man!

This is getting too wimpy - let the D play!

How do you hit with a hard shoulder but NOT a helmet. Where your shoulder hits HARD, your head will follow.

The two safety CRACKS, B.S.

But Porter should never have kept tackling that receiver once he was TOTALLY out of bounds. Stupid on us.

Agreed! But IMHO after seeing the hit on Jimmy I really didn't see that it was illegal either. Brutal yes but unless I missed something it looked clean to me. The only reason I wanted a flag was because we got a BS call against us for half the hit that was earlier. Don't get me wrong, the hit was horrible to watch and I was really worried Jimbo wasn't going to get up or was really hurt, but I actually thought the hit was clean. In just getting tired if the rules now. It's getting out of hand.

YES YES YES!! I was waiting for coach to tell the refs "just put flags on thier hips and we'll just play flag F'N football"
I agree that NEITHER of those monster hits were illegal, Brutal hits yes but not illegal!
