Tulane hires Saints WR coach Curtis Johnson as coach; Brees says he’s a good choice

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane has hired Saints wide receivers coach Curtis Johnson as the new head coach of the Green Wave.

The university scheduled a formal announcement Monday afternoon, but several Saints players including Drew Brees said late Sunday that they’ve already been informed of Johnson’s impending move from the Saints to Tulane.

“He’s coached a lot of big-time players and he’s been around a lot of big-time football,” Brees said. “He’s great for Tulane’s program and the direction they want to go. They got a great coach in Curtis Johnson.”

Good luck to Curtis... there's a reason why we have one of the deepest WR corps in the league.

I am happy for Curtis.

I am disappointed because I believe that he is a BIG reason that our WRs play so well.

Good Luck Curtis! Godspeed!

Curtis is the best WR coach there is, our receivers were all dominant under his coaching, wish him the best but it's a shame to see him go

Recruiting is always BIG.
Curtis Johnson's resume will help him get some talented guys into the GreenWave lineup.
I wish both he and his new endeavor great success.
Tulane's success would be great for him, the school, and the community.

Doesn't hurt the Saints too much, Tulane gets a strong head coach.

Win/Win

Well crap!! Maybe he will find the Saints some hidden gems at Tulane.

FireVenturi 12-05-2011 03:09 PM

I think this does hurt the Saints. He is the best position coach on the staff, and the best WR coach in the league. period. I wonder who will take his place?

SmashMouth 12-06-2011 08:36 AM

Which one of us can coach WR's?

darstep 12-06-2011 11:28 AM

I'll take care of the hands thing, and hire an assistant to teach speed.
We've still got Morgan and Tanner waiting in the wings.
As long as Payton is calling the shots, and Brees stays healthy, I'll take that job.

CRAP!......he is possibly the best asst. coach we have. We are known for our receiving core and it was all due to Johnson.
