Harper Becoming a Thug?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't think this face mask was intentional. He threw his arm out to stop the receiver. The face mask was barely a penalty at that. His arm/hand grazed the mask and caught it. Not trying to make excuses for ...

Not trying to make excuses for him. He has been more aggressive this season, but today was not all on him.

It wasn't intentional by any means. When they slowed it down, he grabbed his should pad, slipped to the helmet, and then the mask. Had he not held on, it would have been a touchdown. It was a necessary play and yet accidental play. It isn't the first time nor last that it happens on the field.

There is nothing about Harper that radiates thug. He's well spoken and doesn't prance around the field like he owns the place. A few of his "hits" were message senders... like "don't go after our players knees when blocking" . He's a leader on this team and protects his players. I wish we had more Roman Harpers on this team.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

lol dirty or not, it stopped them from getting into the endzone on the play. 15 yard penalty was a good trade off.

Frankly, I like a "tough" defense - but the kind that Rickey Jackson and Vaughan Johnson led, not this thuggish brand that Harper has shown as of late...

Maybe if/when Greg Williams leaves after this season, he can take "Toast" with him...
I don't want either of those guys to leave! Harper is arguably the Saints best defender and he and Williams helped the Saints win their first Superbowl.

Harper is playing on the line the whole time. Sometimes the line gets crossed but thats why I like him.

sorry, but I for one would be ok with a penalty a game of something that was totally uncalled for...... as long as it intimitated the other team...I like dirty, tough football, the kind that is played in gravel parking lots with no refs..if you know what im saying

I think Harper was trying to stop the TD. He did. The facemask grab didnt look intentional but it happened and he was penalized for it. Sorry if you disagree but Harper helped win the game!
WHO DAT!!
And unless we acquire Wade Phillips or someone equal to him as Defensive Coordinator I wish for Greg Williams to stay right where he is.
IMHO

Absolutely not. He saved a TD on that play, and if you go back and watch the replay he actually grabs the guys should pad area first, but as the player continues his hand hits the face mask.
