Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers will release QB Jeff Garcia, a 49ers club source confirmed Monday, March 1. Garcia's release will save the 49ers $1.7 million on the salary cap. Garcia will count approximately $10.3 million against the 2004 salary cap. Both sides could not come to terms on a new contract, which resulted in Garcia's release from the team.

Loomis needs to get on the phone with San Diego--soon. Otherwise, I see Garcia playing for the bolts this season. I'm not sure I see the Chargers signing Garcia and then picking Eli at #1, but it could happen. If we're going to get Brooks shipped out of town we need to go ahead and contact the Chargers.

As much as I hate to say it, I may have to root for the 49ers this year (except when they play the Saints). I\'m glad to see that Louisiana Tech alum, Tim Rattay, finally gets his chance to be the Week 1 starter. Now if the Niners could sign Troy Edwards and those two live like they did in their heydey at Tech...LOL...Anyone remember that Nebraska game? WOW!
