Saints/Vikings go separate ways

"There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. ... Our time is now."

That was the message from coach Brad Childress that was attached to each player's locker stall when the Vikings played the Saints in the NFC Championship Game at the Superdome on Jan. 24, 2010.

Looking back on it 23 months later, Childress' words take on a certain cryptic tone. They were right, but not in the way Childress had intended them.

When the Vikings didn't seize their moment -- ruining a dominating performance with five turnovers in a 31-28 overtime loss -- few, if any, suspected that the window of opportunity for Childress and that particular team slammed shut the moment Garrett Hartley's game-winning 40-yard field goal cleared the crossbar.

"In my mind, that seems like eons ago," said current coach Leslie Frazier, whose Vikings (2-11) play the Saints (10-3) on Sunday at Mall of America Field. "So much has transpired between that time and where we are today."

Since that game, the Vikings are 8-21. The Saints, meanwhile, are 22-9, including a Super Bowl victory and two playoff berths.

Ha Ha!! I take such great schadenfreude in the Vi-Queens going "bye Bye"

The only other team I would be happier about seeing them fail would be the Fal-Clowns

This makes the Vikings even more dangerous to us. We make bad teams look great. We need to dominate from the start.

You might have gotten your wish, they have a lot of injured for tonights game

"""The Atlanta Falcons have put out their final injury report for Thursday night’s game with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It’s very lengthy, so I’ll leave off the 10 guys who are listed as probable because they’ll all play, barring any major setbacks. We’ll deal just with the guys who are listed as doubtful or questionable.

There’s major doubt in the defensive backfield as cornerbacks Brent Grimes (knee) and Kelvin Hayden (toe) are both doubtful. The Falcons have been using Christopher Owens and Dominique Franks as their second and third cornerbacks opposite Dunta Robinson while Grimes and Hayden have been out.

There are more issues in the front seven. Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (ankle) and linebacker Stephen Nicholas (quadriceps) are listed as questionable. If Babineaux can’t go, Peria Jerry likely would move into a starting spot. Veteran Mike Peterson has been starting at outside linebacker while Nicholas has been banged up.

On offense, the only real issue is left tackle Will Svitek. He’s questionable with a groin injury. If Svitek can’t play, Sam Baker likely would get the start."""

I like J. Allen, the Vikings still have really good players so I for one will not take this team for granted, Allen is relentless and can get to Brees, so protecting him is the top priority,we do not need Brees hurt. This teams worries me,they have not did well this year and has nothing better to do than play the spoiler.

I agree, and with AP back and Ponder not playing badly we need to Bring The Wood

Hopefully there is enough footage now on Ponder to get a good game plan together, as far as his tendencies and preferences etc. In my view, the myth of "the Saints defense makes bad teams look great" really ONLY happens when it's an unexpected QB situation where the defense can't prepare, or there isn't enough FILM on somebody -- see the Rams game (Feeley instead of Bradford), Titans game (Locker came in unexpectedly, instead of Hasselback) Seattle playoff game (Hasselback vs. Whitehurst, did not know all week who would start until late Thursday), Arizona game last year (Max Hall instead of Derek Anderson), and so forth.

In that case we better be ready for Joe Webb this weekend - that kid has serious speed and can throw a bit.

Love to see a Colts-style azz whoopin'!!!

However, I remember what happened the week AFTER that...

We need a REALIZATION game. I'll call it that. Regardless of the final score, as long as we win and come to a realization that we must drive to be the NFC Champions in mere weeks.

Then the WORLD Champion New Orleans Saints... again!

My take on this game for the offense is:

cold weather/grass/outdoors (Tennessee) + crowd noise in the Metrodome (Minnesota) = combine these two games together, it's a test for what the offense will face going on the road at Candlestick and Lambeau. And it's a big test for the "Saints offense looks different on the road" theory.
