Question for the Forum:

Would you rather Drew Brees have the scrambling ability of Mike Vick...

Or the size/height of Peyton Manning?

jlouhill 12-18-2011 09:00 AM

Well since the O-line generally does a pretty good job of protecting Drew, except for that Sunday they missed their flight to St. Louis, he really doesn't have to scramble all that much so I would rather see the extra few inches of height. But I think he is doing just fine the way he is.

jeanpierre 12-18-2011 09:00 AM

I like Drew Brees just fine the way he is...

jcp026 12-18-2011 09:03 AM

His height hasn't hindered him thus far. Brees doesn't need Vick's speed, but it would make him the most dynamic player to ever hit the field.

halloween 65 12-18-2011 09:06 AM

Neither, I think he has the size and speed he was meant to have and has made the most of it, why change anything, it's great now.

dizzle88 12-18-2011 09:09 AM

Our offense is designed to work for drew, he seperates himself from the line of scrimmage to give himself a throwing lane.

He's the best just the way he is

WhoDat!656 12-18-2011 09:10 AM

I agree with jlouhill that as well as Brees is protected that he doesn't need to scramble a lot.

I like Brees the way he is also; question was offered in a what-if tone.

Kind of like, what-if the 2011 Saints had the original Dome Patrol playing in its prime this year!!

:bng: :chainsaw: The rest of the NFL.

jcp026 12-18-2011 09:16 AM

It sounds like people are offended at the question. It would be SOOO awful for Brees to be more athletic.

Brees has been the best QB under pressure for a while now. Currently #1 again this year under pressure. Brees is 67.9% completions when pressured 127 times. 2nd is Rogers at 66% with only 89 pressures.

Depends, do you define athletic as running around in the pocket like a chicken with its head cut off like rogers has to do because his OL is so horrible, or athletic as Tebow with a 48% completion record ?

Soon to have his head taken off.

I define athletic as using your head and physical ability to gain the best result.
Brees is fine.

FireVenturi 12-18-2011 09:51 AM

Wouldn't change anything on a guy about to break the record for passing yds in a season....

UK_WhoDat 12-18-2011 09:51 AM

Just the way he is; physique, brain, determination.

I am not offended. What is there to be offended about?
I am just aghast. The player is what he is. Change something about him and maybe his style of play - including the level of some of his strengths - changes too.

A more outright question, for me, which QB do you prefer - Vick, Manning, Brees.

Rugby Saint II 12-18-2011 10:00 AM

He's perfect because he has the Napoleon syndrome.jk
Between the two choices I'll take height.

AlaskaSaints 12-18-2011 10:11 AM

Or would Peyton Manning prefer to keep his height and have the Superbowl XLIV ring that Drew Brees has!?

Alaska

pherein 12-18-2011 10:20 AM

anyone thinking of taking P.Manning over Brees might check their records Brees has out performed Manning sense 2007-Now. Brees should have been MVP 2008 and 2009, look it up.

Yup. You give Drew a couple more inches in height and he might lose that chip on his shoulder that makes Drew Drew. It reminds me of that story I heard about Drew, where early in his career they were measuring his height for some scouting combine or team weigh-in or something like that. His height for the official stat sheet or whatever it was. And they said he was craning his neck on the scale, and straightening up his back, going up on the balls of his feet and stuff, trying desperately to get up to that 6'0". I think they even gave him 5'11" at first measurement, and he made them do it again, until he got that last inch, LOL. All his life he's been having people tell him that he couldn't do this or that, he was too small, too short, or hearing people say that others were better/bigger/faster etc. than he is. All of that is what motivates him to be who he is.

homerj07 12-18-2011 03:30 PM

i agree niether - he does what he does becaseu f the skillshe already has change that & you change drew!!

vpheughan 12-18-2011 03:56 PM

He's fine the way he is with that blue suit, red cape and the big S on his chest. The S is for SAINTS by the way!

RockyMountainSaint 12-18-2011 04:11 PM

This hasn't been posted in at least 3 days. So..........

Crusader 12-18-2011 04:23 PM

I'd take height. I think that would make him even more effective in the pocket.

Budsdrinker 12-19-2011 08:58 PM

I prefer him just the way he is. Being only 6' and not being recruited in his home state of Texas has built a huge fire inside of Brees to prove everyone wrong. If he was 6'5" maybe he doesn't prepare and strive for the perfection that he has right now. Brees is perfect the way he is.

homerj07 12-19-2011 09:05 PM

it is pretty awesome

SaintPauly 12-19-2011 09:32 PM

I wouldn't change a thing! He's the freaking terminator!!!

Saint_LB 12-20-2011 06:18 AM

If I could change anything about Brees I would change the fact that he went to Purdue and have him be a former SEC/BCS champion and Heisman winner who graduated from Ole Miss...

xan 12-20-2011 08:06 AM

I'd take 1 inch taller and 0.2 seconds faster in the 40. Not much, but enough to make a difference when stretching for that sideline or peering over 6'6" DT's

NOS2SB 12-20-2011 09:00 AM

Height / Weight advantage if I had to pick. Running / Scrambling =s injury.

Coach Payton was on last night, and basically said people are fooled if they think Drew Brees isnt athletic. If you think about it, he does run occasionally for a first down, and its not like the
middle linebacker catches him. He occasionally does get hit, and just bounces right back up.

I agree with Budsdrinker. His lack of height was probably a factor in being bypassed by schools like UT, which likely lit a fire in his heart.

The last thing I want is a Michael Vick. How many injuries has he had
this year? Running: Live by it/ Die by it. How did Steve Young's career
end up? He ran around too much, and still has headaches from guys like
Frank Warren, Jumpy Geathers, and Vaughn Johnson. Young probably would have played 10 more years, if he'd stayed in the pocket.

The #1 thing a QB needs, next to his arm, is his BRAIN. And we have the best.

I agree 100%. We are not talking about taking away what he already has and does, it's in "addition" to those. And I would bet the house that if you got him one on one and ask him he would tell you that he would love to have an extra inch or two to go along with everything thing else he has.

Again, we are not taking away any of his current abilities, work ethics, game knowledge, passed/current accomplishments, etc. from him, just adding one extra treat...BEST QB IN HISTORY!!!

pherein 12-20-2011 09:55 AM

Vick is only 6ft for anyone who doesn't know , they just don't say anything about it.

Hence, the reason he get's picked off constantly and beat the hell up. He would love to be taller as well...and right-handed. ;)

lol, Ive never been convinced height has anything to do with QB ability. Brees has out performed Manning sense 2007- Now. Not sure many know but Brees also wears contact lenses.

6ft 5 might make you see a little better, but it also means your arms are longer, so your throw is slower. Most important to me is mental quickness, accuracy , work ethic, then arm strength.

lol, I think the only thing vick loves is himself.

Boutte 12-21-2011 12:26 PM

Brees is the scrambler in the league. That's why he never has to run.

There was once talk that Brees was a bust. What changed?

Brees took the bull by the horns, so to speak, and worked his azz off to get better. He continues to have an amazing work ethic and is reaping the rewards.

Vick hasn't taken the bull by the horns. Vick has allowed circumstances to limit him, something Brees refused to allow. Intelligence and ability aside, that's the biggest difference between the two in my humble opinion.
