One of the more persistent rumors over the past 10 days has been that Saints QB Aaron Brooks was a possible piece in a trade with Cleveland for possible draft picks. ...
Cleveland?

Quote:

A MOMENT OF ZEN: "The 'name' guys are going to be franchise tagged," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune. "There will always be some big signings in the first days (of free agency). But often those teams end up way overpaying for what you end up with. History shows that the odds are against you. It doesn't work. You don't get return for what you're paying for. Where you make hay is getting those second-tier guys down the line who come in and perform for you, the Joe Horns, the Victor Rileys, the Kendyl Jacoxes. Those have been the guys that offer the best value."
I agree 100%. The patriots forumla all the way.

As SI.com\'s Peter King rightly notes: \"The lesson of the Patriots\' two Super Bowl wins in the last three years is a simple one: Don\'t become entranced by the big-money free agents.\"

New Orleans is expected to follow that script.
Let\'s see what does this mean ????

They are going to win with a solid team core , and not spend big in free agency because they have a core of non cancerous players to play . The great coaching can overcome any season obstacles , with talented experienced coordinators that know how to motivate their players and keep them focused . They have established leadership in current players like Brady and Bruchi to lead the teams and a kicker the excels under pressure .

Anyone get the feeling that the writer has not seen a Saints game in over 10 years ???.. :casstet:

From a pure coaching/front office perspective the Saints are the anti-Patriots. If you took a picture of Bill Billichik and got it developed--the photo-hut would give you back a negative that looks suspiciously like Jim Haslett.

Haslett is a clueless waste of sideline space that spends every off season trying to be like the team that won the Super Bowl .

This year is value and he will try to emulate the Champions .

Hasletts plan is to clearly follow the leaders ....

That is kind of true and I never really thought about it. When Haslett got here he tried to make a more explosive offense that was similar to Vermeil\'s Rams and a defense full of hogs that clogged up running lanes like Baltimore\'s. Two or three years later he\'s worrying about speed on defense (can anyone say Tampa Bay?) and a more controlled offense based on the ground attack (Carolina much?).

That\'s something I never thought about, but it seems that Haslett and Co. are playing follow the leader. They\'re so close I just hope they stick their heads up long enough to fill the holes and put a team on the field that can contend.

Pretty astute observation now that you mention it. No wonder the team struggles with identity--it keeps getting redesigned every off-season. Maybe we need Gibbs to win the superbowl this year--then Haslett will be all gung-ho on making move$ in free agency.
