Bleacher Report's Week 17 Predictions....Blah....

This prediction by Matt Miller of Bleacher Report.....(Thanks, Matt, you motivate us, even if you are obviously delusional)

Monday, Game of the Week: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints

When Atlanta Has the Ball:
Matt Ryan has an explosive group of players on his offense, all ready to attack the Saints' defense. The match-up of Julio Jones and Roddy White against the New Orleans defense will be worth the wait to Monday night.
Ryan has to stay clean and on his feet this week. When protected, Ryan is an elite quarterback. Will Svitek has played well at left tackle in replacing Sam Baker, which bodes well for Ryan. The Saints' aren't known for their great players on defense, but the scheme and execution are solid.
The Saints have to know the Falcons can and will move the ball. The game plan should focus on creating turnovers and hoping Brees can outscore Ryan.
When New Orleans Has the Ball:
This should be the week that Drew Brees passes Dan Marino as the all-time single-season passing leader. Impressive stuff, but meaningless if the Saints can't win this game to keep their chances for the No. 2 seed in the NFC alive. Brees would tell you records mean little in the here and now. It's all about winning.
Brees gets a ton of credit, as he should, but it's the run game of the Saints that impresses me most. Even with guards Carl Nicks and Jahri Evans having down seasons, the Saints are able to get into a rhythm running the ball and can steamroll a defense.
Atlanta will look to counter the run game with their speed on defense and their girth up front. Corey Peters and Jonathan Babineaux need monster games to hold off the interior of the Saints' line. If they can hold their ground, Curtis Lofton and Sean Weatherspoon have the speed and vision to make plays and shut down the Saints' offense.
One player who makes a world of difference is Brent Grimes. Without Grimes, the Falcons' defense is very different. They need him back this week.
Prediction: Atlanta 31, New Orleans 30
(Footnote by JoanieNTX: Matt Miller of Bleacher Report is obviously on a hallucinogen).

Meaningless if we do not get No. 2 seed? He makes it sound like if we do not get the No. 2 seed our season is over LOL.

JoanieNTX 12-20-2011 11:37 AM

I already told him he was a moron..... ;)

AlaskaSaints 12-20-2011 12:30 PM

When describing the Falcons he uses EXPLOSIVE, ATTACK and ELITE.
When describing the Saints he uses SHOULD, IMPRESSIVE and MEANINGLESS.

Joanie, you send this article back to him next Tuesday.

I read it again, this MORON actually said "hoping Brees can outscore Ryan". Do you F'ing believe that?! This guy is a TURD of the highest order.

That's the worst pipe dream I've ever seen dreamed up. I mean, seriously...

LOL

JoanieNTX 12-20-2011 12:36 PM

Yes, besides being a moron, he is obviously a Saints hater...or a Fail-con fan. Either way, he is certainly not very intelligent, nor does he pay attention. Fail-cons, elite? ROFLOL!

AlaskaSaints 12-20-2011 12:39 PM

We've OUTSCORED them by 110 points already this year! That's FIVE games worth of points! OMG, this is driving me NUTS.

Please provide the guy's email, Joanie. I couldn't find the link. You're probably a member and I am not. Now I know why... LOL

It's bleacher report. It's about what I'd expect.

Alaska, could not find his email address, but here is his page link:
Matt Miller's Sportswriter Profile | Bleacher Report if this helps!

AlaskaSaints 12-20-2011 12:54 PM

It wants my email address and I will not give it to such a pathetic online rag.

Look, OBJECTIVELY, it will be a close game and the Falcons can beat us. That's just a reality. However, to report/write it in the way he did is FANTASY. It ignores Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints, our record, our Points Fielded, I mean it ignores everything positive about the Saints and highlights everything that MAY turn out positive for the Falcons if they pull a fluke and beat us at home as hot as we are.

This guy, Matt Miller, has lost face with that garbage. If he ever had any.

This rag reports on the WWF, for God's sake!!!! Come on!!! LOL

If he writes that on a FanBoard, it's fan raving on a team, but to be published is totally out of line.

I agree, Alaska....I don't remember ever subscribing to Bleacher Report, but for some reason, they email it to me with these "catch" headlines that make me open and read! But I posted this thread just to let y'all know what's out there! :)

It also ignores two very important elements....

1. Its a HOME GAME - the day after Christmas. The Dome may be louder then the Divisional Game in 09 & we are REALLY good at home.

2. Its a Monday Night Game, on the national stage, Drew & the Saints SHINE like a f--king super nova on the national stage.

From my Email to the clown responsible for this travesty of objective journalism: (I guess that's what they are shooting for)

Mr. Miller,

I take exception to the angle and content of your recent article, highlighting next Monday night's game between the Falcons and the Saints.

First of all, the article is extremely one-sided, ignoring relevant items like recent history, team record, rank within the league and the statistics of the two teams. I could certainly understand your bias if it were written on a team fan board, however its publication on a widely-read internet magazine I find to be alarming.

Here are some of my exceptions:

When has Matt Ryan ever been considered an Elite Quarterback? He has never won a post-season game, nor is he challenging any current NFL record. You chose to describe Drew Brees, who IS and elite quarterback, as "impressive". Well, being a Super Bowl MVP and on the verge of breaking a record that has stood for over 25 years, you need to check with your typesetter to make sure there was not a transcription error where quarterbacks are concerned. It is Drew Brees who is the elite quarterback, and Matt Ryan is less-than-impressive when compared to Drew Brees.

The "explosive" offense of the Atlanta Falcons, as you describe it, has scored to date 116 fewer points than the Saints and is listed 10th overall; New Orleans is ranked 2nd overall going into this game. With respect to passing, the Saints are ranked 1st to the Falcons' 9th ranking, However, you are impressed by the Saints' rushing game, which is ranked 13th to the Falcons' 4th rank. I'm confused as to why your emphasis is placed on the Falcons offense as opposed to the TRULY EXPLOSIVE Saints offense. Both teams will field professional athletes, and of course it is impossible to predict an outcome, therefore your relying on fantasy over current standing or history is puzzling.

You list no notable Saints defenders, however Roman Harper leads the league in sacks among safeties and the Saints' defense is trending upward. The Falcons are ranked well above the Saints' defensively overall, therefore you have valid points in suggesting that if the defense of the Falcons plays overwhelmingly and the offense of the Saints plays poorly, the Saints could be shut down, but that would be exceptional circumstance and not reported on unless it were realized. It's like saying the Saints have scored over 60 points this year and because they are capable they may do that against the Falcons. We both know that it could happen but it is very unlikely in a tight divisional matchup.

Overall, I found your article poorly researched, and written as if you were pressed to produce something for deadline and just poked at the keyboard and hoped for the best.

You fell far short.

In the future, I would appreciate more professionalism from someone writing for such a widely-read internet magazine.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Marc Taylor

Curtis Lofton and Sean Weatherspoon have the speed and vision to make plays and shut down the Saints' offense.

They do? Those two, can SHUT DOWN the NO offense? When has that ever actually happened before? Those two dudes combined have zero sacks and an extremely average/mediocre number of tackles, against the Saints...sounds like some serious crack pipe dreams to me.
