And don't forget he is the ultimate professional, you never gonna hear about him in a situation not relating to something on the field.

In one word, Schottenheimer

Nothing against Meach, Henderson, Arrington, or Roby, but I couldn't disagree with you more.

I hate to put the kaibosh on Colston being at New Orleans but I am telling you right now, he is finished unless he accepts a far more structured contract. However there are a number of teams who need a WR option just like Colston and would be happy to pay the sort of money he is after. I can see him landing in Minnesota or somewhere like that. God forbid he goes to Carolina or I am going to cry. A lot!

The truth is as well, that whilst you have someone like Drew Brees, you can put any decent route runner with half decent hands out on the field and Brees will turn them into a star. Well said...

While I agree with most of what you are saying, not many decent route runners with half decent hands can take on the double coverage, make the catch, and take the types of hits Drew often puts him in position to take. He's certainly replaceable, just not as easy as it may seem. I do feel Meachem is capable and ready for an expanded role.

I'm also curious of what your idea of a more structured contract is. 10 million is just speculation and may be a bit much since Brees and Nicks are first in the pecking order... but would you consider 7 or 8 million a year with a little moe up front more structured?

Does any one else feel Drew would be willing to take less to ensure Colston remains a Saint? Honestly I feel we keep all three. At worst, we franchise Nicks or Colston, extend the other two, and worry about the last one the year after. I wouldn't be shocked to see either Smith or Vilma becoming cap casualties freeing up the money to get everyone done either.

I'd have no problem loosing Will Smith to keep Colston around

This is going to be one tough off season.

I think Sean Payton has more to do with the continued success of Brees than our wide receivers. And vice versa. That being said now that Lance is locked up Colston is the one receiver that we better get locked up. I could not care less if Meatchump walks.

This upcoming off season is probably going to be brutal. Colston is good as gone at this point. Henderson is probably right behind him. Will Smith and Jon Vilma, probably gone too. The Saints have ran their course and the off season isn't going to be kind to them. We should all hope for another Super Bowl win, because after this season it's not happening. Brees will still be around with his 25 million dollar per year contract, and lots of rookies.

It's not just that, when you play with the Saints as a WR you're forfeiting personal fame. The ball is spread so thin (with really only Graham getting the fame) that you just take what you get. Pay the guy or he'll go somewhere else and play big. If Reggie can do it, I'm sure Colston can play big elsewhere.
