Saints running back Pierre Thomas has been fined $12,500 for a uniform violation and a touchdown celebration in which he placed a bow on a football and gave it to a fan.

The fine for the celebration is $7,500. Thomas also violated NFL policies by wearing Christmas-themed green and red tape on his black and gold Saints uniform, and his fine for that is $5,000.

Notice of the fines was taped to Thomas' locker by teammates with a big red bow on top as part of a prank.

No Fun League strikes again!!

jnormand 12-29-2011 07:31 PM

He wasn't the only one with green and red on. Thought I saw a few of the guys with green and red shoes and tape. Ha!!

That was the most expensive gift wrapping I've ever heard of excluding former executive of Tyco Industries!

Yep, their was a few more guys with red n green tape, although I cant remember who besides P.Thomas on his wrist & L.Moore On his ankles.
I wanna say Colston did too but may be wrong about that.

I'm not the least surprised and i think its quite fitting for such a foolish thing.

Danno 12-30-2011 08:27 AM

It was dumb as hell. I hope the team fines the crap out of him too.

papz 12-30-2011 08:31 AM

Couldn't even get the bow on right!

The fine goes to charity any ways... he was in the Christmas spirit.

Srgt. Hulka 12-30-2011 08:53 AM

Yep, I was screaming "Oh No, Don't do it!" at the TV when he first pulled the bow out. I my wife was wondering what I was talking about. I told her that he was about to get a 15 yard penalty for excessive celebration and a big fine. If he had just walked up and handed her the ball and said Merry Christmas, it would have been fine. But he had to showboat it. There were several players standing around him trying to shield him from the officials. They should be fined too. If it's against the rules, it's against the rules. Dont do it!

AsylumGuido 12-30-2011 09:07 AM

I agree. That was an idiotic act. The Saints started becoming successful when it was all about the team. That was a ME thing. That crap doesn't belong on this team and I don't care for it in the league as a whole.

JoanieNTX 12-30-2011 11:38 AM

I think I saw it a little different than anyone has mentioned. PT couldn't give ALL of the Saints fans a gift, so the football with a bow given to a fan was representative of him giving Saints fans what they want! TDs!!! I thot it was sweet, and may have been a little cheesy, but hey....it's Christmas! Where's the love????

Just a little cheesy?

I was embarrassed for him. :p

Kryptonite 12-30-2011 12:10 PM

My only problem with it was that it took too damn long. Creative though. I don't have any problems with TD celebrations, just do a dry-run first. HA!

JoanieNTX 12-30-2011 12:13 PM

I'm a girl! We sorta like cheesy sometimes. And romantic...and sweet...and meaningful....and (should I go on)?

papz 12-30-2011 12:27 PM

I have 3 sisters and I do enjoy the occasional chick flick too. ;)

claus808 12-30-2011 12:30 PM

Who care's? It didn't hurt us at all. Relaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

TheKillerBs 12-30-2011 12:33 PM

No Fun League... I thought it was cute. Not worth the fine, but cute.

Careful Papz, Grown men should not have female tendencies, period. Just ask Jonathan Vilma.

neugey 12-30-2011 01:12 PM

I wasn't a big fan of the present stunt, though it was cute it was a bit showboaty. But it was all worth it to hear the ref explain the flag "Unsportsmanlike conduct ... number 23 ... using the football as a prop in an act of celebration" I LOL'd.

Halo 12-30-2011 01:27 PM

I hated it. Yes it is the no fun league, so don't do it.
We had to kick off deeper back and Atlanta got a return. Had something ignorant happened, like special teams breakdown and Atl returned the kick for points, it would have been TOTALY STUPID!

I don't want to give the opponent a FREE opportunity for ANY points whatsoever.

But it could have. Are you OK with letting our players all do this after every TD?

Just because we dodged a bullet this time doesn't mean it wasn't stupid.

And Morestead still kicked the ball all the way inside the 5 yd line. Dude is a monster kicker.

Mardigras9 12-30-2011 06:11 PM

It was a great show of support to the fans of New Orleans. $12,500 divided by 52 players and how many coaches is what? I think he'll be OK. I do agree with Danno however, it was not a good decision so early in the game. As long as he doesn't shoot fireworks when we play the Panthers, we'll chalk it up to lesson learned.

I will guarantee you that NONE of the coaches were happy about that crap.

And it wasn't a show of anything other than self-promotion. Another thing I will guarantee is that is the last time he ever does anything like that under Sean Payton's watch.

saintsfan1976 12-30-2011 07:46 PM

Dumb, dumb, dumb, STUPID.

Oddly, that was the only "celebration" I've ever really seen PT do.

WHO_DAT_CAT 12-31-2011 12:37 AM

You know one thing I don't understand is many or most end zone celebrations use the football as a prop. Spiking the ball, dunking the ball, spinning the ball, etc. How come those are not similarly called?

Because they aren't illegal.

Using a prop other than the football is a 15 yard penalty and every player knows it.

WHO_DAT_CAT 12-31-2011 01:17 PM

I think they need to re-word the rule. They said using the football as a prop. But the bow was the 'prop'.

Well, you guys are making me rethink PT's celebration. But, I want more end zones dances. Colston and Sproles need more end zone personality. But, not at the cost of penalties.

QBREES9 12-31-2011 01:52 PM

That fine was almost a 1000.00 dollars a yard. Maybe it should have been.

The only personality I want to see out of our players in the endzone is serious business. Colston and Sproles should be examples of what to do when you score. Hand the ball to the ref and get ready to do it again.

I agree with Srgt. I was in Live caht here and thought, why penalize yourself but most importantly, why penalize your team.
I am not a fan of these antics.
This is not you and your and friends palying a game at the park after the picnic.
Yeah, the money goes to charity.
Yeah, the penalty, this time, did not really hurt the team absed on the final score.
I do not like these things.
Stick to the NFL's script.
If it is something they can sort of slide with like the guy from Buffalo Bills kissing his Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and it was jsut a peck, nothing too uch, it was ok. I do not think the NFL ever had that situation.
Stick to the script.
