Brees' accomplishments

In a press release, the NFL outline some of Brees' accomplishments:

Brees threw for 307 yards and passed Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (5,084 in 1984) for the most passing yards in a single season in NFL history with 5,087. The Saints defeated Atlanta 45-16 and clinched the NFC South division with the victory.

He had four touchdown passes and reached the yardage milestone on a nine-yard TD pass to DARREN SPROLES in the fourth quarter.
Brees, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, recorded his NFL-record 12th 300-yard game of the season and tied the league mark with his sixth consecutive 300-yard passing game (Pro Football Hall of Famer STEVE YOUNG, KURT WARNER and RICH GANNON). Brees, who had 5,069 passing yards in 2008, owns two of the three 5,000-yard passing seasons in NFL history.

He has 41 touchdown passes and is the sixth quarterback in NFL history to pass for at least 40 TDs in a season.
In his 11th season from Purdue, this is Brees' 15th career Player of the Week Award and third this season (Weeks 7 and 12).

5,476 total passing yards. Single season Record

It's bad when us fans have a hard time of keeping up with all the records the Saints are setting this year.

MVP doesn't stand for how many games you won this year, it stands for the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER to his team and what he has accomplished over the course of the the year. Sure the win loss record is a part of that, but a small part. Most of the pundits are only looking at that instead of all the milestones that these players have reached. Yes, Aaron Rogers has had a tremendous season and has some impressive stats, but he hasn't broken ANY records meaning he hasn't accomplished anything but putting together a string of victories. On the other hand, Brees has broken the single season passing record, a record that has stood for 27 years, has positioned himself 6 games away from breaking Johnny Unitas's record of 47 straight games throwing a TD, a record that has stood for 50 years, which he will break in 2012. He has passed for more TD's this year in a come from behind effort to catch and pass Aaron Rogers. Sure you can say Rogers didn't play this last game but he could have and chickened out, scared he might get hurt, meaning Drew Brees has more courage. Drew has thrown more passes, completed more passes and set that record also and has done it longer and more consistently than Aaron Rogers. This is not to down play what Rogers has accomplished this year, but CLEARLY, Drew Brees had done more and been more valuable to his team, his city, his fans and the league. For him to not get the MVP award will be a travesty and dirty the image of the NFL in the process.
