I am about done with the NFL

I love my Saints and always will and will continue to watch them forever win or lose, but the NFL is turning to ****. The officiating is getting worse and worse every year and now its to the point where you can't tell they are blatantly trying to manipulate the outcome of games. In the first quarter before we started to pull away the refs were doing everything they could to keep us from reaching the end zone. You know why? Because Cam Newton is a good story, and the NFL can see the marketing potential in him. He will bring in tons of ratings and that is exactly what the NFL is turning to. They keep changing the rules and it is to the point where defenses are not even fun to watch anymore. The NFL is putting themselves in position to manipulate games enough to give teams who bring in the most ratings a better chance to win. Hoculli has been a horrible official for years and he's getting worse. Unless the NFL starts holding some of these officials liable for these crappy calls it is only going to get worse. If this keeps up I am going to only watch the Saints and go back to watching college ball in spite of how ****ed up the BCS is.

halloween 65 01-01-2012 09:30 PM

Hey did you see those pictures of him maybe the NFL could market those.

B005TED 01-01-2012 09:51 PM

Dude, couldn't have said it better myself. Hock-a-loogie needs to go, end of story. The supposed horse collar tackle in the first half was ridiculous and don't even get me started about the fumble recovery. He needs to just retire, obviously the steroids are starting to affect his brain.

BIGEASY504 01-01-2012 09:57 PM

These calls when called should be reviewed/challenged cause the edge are calling anything close to the head

RockyMountainSaint 01-01-2012 11:37 PM

13-3.............
I will continue to watch.

FireVenturi 01-01-2012 11:40 PM

We won the game in a blowout....I'm not sweating it...

I have to say when you compare the trigger happy refs in the game against the Titans versus the refs today it seems like these guys were gun shy.

I did not agree with the horse collar. But, the refs littered the field all day in Nashville. Today, it seems to me they backed off in general (except on a few bad calls against us). Seems like they missed a pass interference call against us and a bunch against the Panthers.

Just what I saw.

Well sweetie, let me help you.

Direct Mattie Ryan over there, to the bench.

Look for the dejected Carolina QB with the towel on his head.

Yep, yep, there he is. He's the one sitting next to Lil' Joshie Freeman.

Now, "My name is Matthew."

"HI Matthew."

"The Saints humiliated me!"

"Welcome Matthew. They humiliated us too!"

"WELCOME!"

Congratulations!!!!!!!

You are well on your way to recovery!

Now caddieman, "Make like a Tree..........."

Correcto

Budsdrinker 01-02-2012 01:47 PM

Other than the horse collar call, I liked the fact that the refs let them play football. There were several ticky tack calls that could have been made that wasn't which I was glad were not called.

Remember Grover Klemmer?

Rugby Saint II 01-02-2012 04:43 PM

The NFL tries to influence and dictate games....There is no proof but I'm sure it's forthcoming. It's blatantly obvious.

True Ed Is A Horrible Ref But He Did Better Than I Expected....I Think He's Getting An Earful Nowadays And Starting To Change

homerj07 01-02-2012 05:11 PM

Here is the thing & I think skymike had said this earlier in the season.

For all the calles these guys make - they do a good job.

NOW - is there the potential for manipulation?? Yes - of course. BUT the league would have to wiegh the options of what would happen if it was found out.

Football is the most popular sport in the US. Baseball is dying, basketball (was) self imploding. So it would be stupid & short sighted!!

Think about this, and you'll work out that what you say is absolutely wrong. The refs are NOT taking instructions from the NFL on how to rig games. Here's the proof.

1. Each week, there are 112 men officiating NFL games. If the games are rigged, the NFL must find a substantial number of these - at least half - who are lying, cheating, dishonest, fraudulent, you name it, thery're lowest of the low. And when you employ them, you pay them so little that they can't afford to give up their day job.

2. Every single one of these men is so very trustworthy that the league can trust them entirely not to go to a publisher and receive $5m+ for a book entitled "How the league is rigged". Even though they have nothing to lose personally, and everything to gain.

You cannot find so many men who are lying, dishonest, fraudulent, and absolutely trustworthy. It's nonsense.

I think the league is behind the manipulation. I think they want refs manipulating games for the sake of ratings. Thats why the refs are so protected from criticism.

saintfan 01-02-2012 08:31 PM

Protected from criticism? On any given week some player(s) or coach(es) are going off about the officiating. It is inconsistent. Certainly they are not protected. The fines deter, but they do not eliminate.

Side me with those who think the refs do an amazing job - MOST of the time. There are those head-scratching moments to be sure, and they're frustrating, but the body of work the officials present from one season to the next is pretty damn solid in my opinion.

Blame the league for implementing silly rules to promote offense and to protect QBs. Don't blame the refs for doing all that is humanly possible to enforce them.

FinSaint 01-02-2012 08:47 PM

I think overall the refs do a good job calling the games. It's a very hard job to do with as fast as the game is with all the moving parts involved in each and every single play within the game.

Naturally they get some of the calls wrong and it's frustrating when it happens against the team you're supporting, but in the end it all evens out... with maybe the exception of calls that decide the outcome of a playoff/championship type of a game.

I don't believe in a league-wide conspiracy to manipulate the outcomes of games to further some underlining plan concocted in a shady boardroom - I believe the refs are just human as are the players and because of that mistakes are made on both sides of the game, which in itself is part of the game.
