Hey guys, I have been reading for a while but have never posted. I have found this to be the best source of Saints info available. If I am saying something that has already been covered, forgive me. Has anyone heard anything about the possibility of picking up Michael Barrow who was just released by the Giants?

...pass... I think it would be a better fit for Ian Gold to come in. Also major age difference.

I say let\'s get him, he is 34, but think about this:

Barrow, the team\'s leading tackler the last two seasons
He started all 16 games last season and finished with a career-high and team-high 177 tackles, including 122 solo. He had two sacks and three forced fumbles.
Barrow has 1,219 career tackles, including 820 solo. He has recorded more than 100 tackles in seven of the last eight seasons.

The man\'s a beast!

he\'s going to drop off in production... and we may only get a year or 2 out of him and be looking for a MLB again way to soon

I think getting Barrow is a risk worth taking. I would much rather have 2 good years out of him than 2 bad years of the trash we have now. Besides we usually don\'t hang on to linebackers much more than 2 years anyway, but if I had to guess we won\'t sign him because they have not been doing much of anything this free agent period.

Gold is a better choice. However, assuming that Gold is not available, odds are we will draft a MLB and/or try to put a young guy (i.e. Grant) in that spot. Barrow would be a perfect guy to help teach and probably even play for one more season and in reserve when needed. If we could sign him cheap, then I\'m all for it. Veteran leadership and consistency is a major need for us at LB and on D in general. The fact that the guy may still have a couple of years left as a starter is a bonus.

agree Gold is the better choice. I don\'t have a clue whats going to be the going rate for barrow, he may actually be a fair mareket value due to his age... Gold however in the long run 4-6 years will be the better canidate to don the black and \"Gold\". I think they will lean on Young/Grant/Gold on the leadership aspect.

Barrow does have the age against him. If we could get Gold then we could definitly go after a corner in the draft. I do think the coners we have would have had better numbers if they didn\'t have to worry about our current LB\'s knowing how to tackle. Bye the way, what is the status on Grant\'s progress. Is he ready to step in?

I\'d like to see us sign Barrow to a two year deal and draft Vilma. This would give us a good run stopper for this season and some veteran leadership while allowing our young linebacker to learn the system and adjust to the NFL speed. We could get him for $2-2.5 for this year with an option for the second year. I think that would be worth it.

I rather see Gold and sign him to a lengthy contract. shore up a position for a few years. SO next year other positions we can address. If ya draft a MLB in round one, he should be a starter.
