MALCOLM JENKINS..........

got beat like a drum......repeatedly. Seriously makes me wish we still had Sharper back there.

dizzle88 01-14-2012 07:40 PM

agreed.

Alex smith put the ball up and jenkins didnt look around, 50 yard gain

GW sends 7 people to blitz with 40 seconds left in the game on a 3rd and 10, and jenkins gets caught napping.

I'm ready for a new style of D please, you wanna leave GW theres the door

saintfan 01-14-2012 07:41 PM

Maybe, but the fault today belongs to the OLINE and everybody who turned the ball over. This shouldn't even have been a close game. That's the maddening part.

Agreed, D played good for a looong time but an NFL defence will only hold for so long.

CharityMike 01-14-2012 07:43 PM

I blame all of our defense regretion on Williams. No other person to point the finger to. Our guys don't even look for the ball, which is why when it hits them in the hands they are amazed. They are so worried about getting yelled at for missing a tackle they don't even try for a pick. The kicker is...they still miss tackles!! By GW!!

Fixed it

saints1234 01-14-2012 07:56 PM

i dont blame the D at all they played a hell of a game and they held as long as they could before they broke so dont go blaming them if u want to blame anyone its the 5 turnovers, or the O-line or the complete lost of a run game Payton was not even trying to run the ball and every time he would every body new it was coming because he would send Ivory in and every body nos that means run.....The offense finally got it together a put some points up....but dont go blaming the D it had nothing to do with them

hagan714 01-14-2012 07:57 PM

malcom on davis? talk about a speed mismatch.

wierd to say it but it was. no help over the top? tisk tisk

halloween 65 01-14-2012 08:00 PM

I'm sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't get it, I'm so heartbroke I don't know who to blame!!! All I know is we lost to a team we should not have.....

Yeah...but its the offense's fault not that..or maybe a O lineman should have helped with that.

Defense played great until it mattered the most. Period. Like in another post.. Coaching grade= F

G504 01-14-2012 08:24 PM

Jenkins definitely gets the goat award. I mean, GW probably told him, "we're blitzing and the help will be on Crabtree. So Davis is yours." And he choked ... twice ... late in the 4th. That's were it matters most, Malcolm. You can have 10 regular season picks (which he DIDN'T), but if you can stay even with a tight end in the final 3 minutes of the 4th, then the rest doesn't matter.

saintsfan1976 01-14-2012 08:25 PM

Just.

Like.

Seattle.....

lumm0x 01-14-2012 08:29 PM

Jenkins should be able to man up on any TE in the game. He failed his job today. He's a hell of a safety but today he was outplayed.

spkb25 01-14-2012 08:31 PM

If sharp had anything left someone would have picked him up

LivnaLieTimay 01-14-2012 08:32 PM

Jenkins played a bad game but he was put in bad situations. Davis was their ONLY legitimate receiver today and we left him one on one with a safety. I posted in another thread that Davis had 180 of the teams 299 receiving yards. Their wide outs were nervous and didn't look ready for this stage. You need to take away Davis and the coaching staff didn't do that. Davis will beat a lot of safeties in one on one coverage. Jenkins should of had help all game and didn't get it.

Danno 01-14-2012 08:33 PM

Jenkins had a terrible game. Worst game I've seen him play in a Saints uniform.

Our Linebackers suck even worse, and our front 4 needs serious help.

AGREE

Captain Catfish 01-14-2012 08:34 PM

I am not real sure how you put this on Jenkins. Those were some pretty horrendous play calls. Malcolm would be much better if he were put in winnable positions (i.e. facing the offense, not playing man defense so Williams can show how "creative" he is). His lack of speed is the reason he is playing Safety not Corner to begin with.

hagan714 01-14-2012 08:35 PM

Veron Vs Jenkins. come on if Drew was in a niners uniform he would take that all game long.

voodooido 01-14-2012 08:45 PM

Thats my point! GW overloads the blitz when Davis was eating us up all game. GW needs to go not Jenkins

TopCow 01-14-2012 08:49 PM

I don't like two things...

1) San Francisco brought the wood and caused turnover after turnover. We didn't and it cost us a trip to Indianapolis.
2) We cannot create a pass rush with a defensive line and an occasional linebacker. That's because we draft a lot of safeties, linebackers, and even cornerbacks who can be plugged in and out at various positions and can fill multiple roles. And who are not all that great at their primary assignments. Adequate at everything, excellent at nothing. We saw linebackers, defensive linemen, and SAFETIES (Great God) getting beat reapeatedly. If GW could just fill each position with a player who is excellent at that position, I suspect our defense would not collapse in the face of a shrewd offensive coordinator.:(:(:(

Hayduke 01-14-2012 08:53 PM

Jenkins is a great player, I love the kid, he will only get better.

But what are you going to do when Harper has the most sacks on the team?

We need a fierce front 7 that gets after the run and the QB better, and leave our outside guys to practice catching footballs and work on their man coverage.

Even though he dropped a lot of passes today, we still had to respect Crabtree. That's their number one option. And in theory, he's a lot faster than Davis. Davis just wanted it much more than Jenkins did.

Time for another burial ceremony of all of our pass accomplishments and get hungry again. Act like we never won it. Like we're still fighting 45 years of history. Like a half million Katrina victims are still counting on the team to bring some cheer back to New Orleans.

Captain Catfish 01-14-2012 08:55 PM

What really needs to happen is move Harper to SLB (he would be a little small, but it is his natural position) and draft a SS. Oh, and hope like hell someone else offers to pay Greg Williams' salary next year.

Very true. I only heard Will Smith's name once all day. And that was when they said Gore got a good block on Smith :(

The niners were on their own 30 with 40 seconds left. No one should be left on an island in that situation. I agree that Jenkins was outplayed by Davis but Jenkins should have been back in coverage keeping receivers in front of him, not matched up in man with the only offensive player who was playing well.

I really thought that MJ was going to be Sharper Lite but he just hasnt panned out. I really don't know what to do but I suspect quddus will be our new starting FS next year.

I'm thinking the same thing, Jenkins may be a #1 pick but he does not play like one, I'm not seeing the up-side of his game and haven't for a while.

I think the D coaching wasn't great late in the 4th. But, other than that I agree with you.

dizzle88 01-15-2012 06:49 AM

Jenkins played awesome at the end of 2010 and it made you think he had a couple picks and would get even better in 2011 - almost as you said "turning into darren sharper"

At this point I don't know if he'd be better suited to SS, but then roman excels because of how GW plays him to his strengths and I wouldn't want to lose that.
Jenkins got burned by CJ last week ( yeah I know he's the best wideout in the NFl) for 210 yards and 2 TD's
This week he gave vermin davis 180 yards and 2 TD's

We need a safety that understands the coverage more but most of all we need a damn pass rush without sending 7 frickin players after the QB.
Look at what spags did with new yorks front 4, if GW leaves I'd love for him to come here

papz 01-15-2012 08:10 AM

Jenkins went from looking like a future All Pro to just another safety. Maybe we need to move him into that nickel/FS combo position again. Our starting FS this year was been quite underwhelming.

Mardigras9 01-15-2012 08:17 AM

D played well most of the game. The game shouldn't have been close, 5 turnovers won't get it done. Another post season stunner. It was a good year and we win in the Dome next year. Malcolm got beat badly when it counted most.

Cruize 01-15-2012 08:34 AM

85 yards - 1 timeout - 1:20 to go in the 4th

NOT EVEN DREW BREES SHOULD SCORE A TD! The defense and the defensive coordinator are to blame. It doesn't matter if they had played well with their backs against the wall all day long, the game is there for the taking, they have to step up. They didn't. They failed.

Saint_LB 01-15-2012 09:30 AM

Didn't read the entire thread. I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one thinking that he had a bad game...but I don't remember thinking that for a while. What is it about our team going to the west coast for a playoff game? Jenkins wasn't the only one looking like he was sleep-walking last night.

papz 01-15-2012 09:45 AM

Next time we have a west coast playoff game, we should fly to Japan to practice. By the time we make it back, they should all be awake.

nicebush25 01-15-2012 11:04 AM

Blame for this loss goes to the 49ers and there crowd. They were intense the entire game. Saints didn't realize they were in a fight til they were on the ropes. spotting a team 17pts at there house in the playoffs isnt a recipe for success.
The only excuse i offer is the shot thomas took to the earhole at the start of the game. It was a bad no call and it set the tone of the game.
