Carl Nicks Expectd to leave

Nicks is “expected to leave” town, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Report: Carl Nicks

CharityMike 01-15-2012 11:22 AM

I think Adam is full of doodie.

Belair57 01-15-2012 11:24 AM

sure hope your right mike

MistaBigXXL 01-15-2012 11:37 AM

I'm gonna have to trust Mickey Loomis to work this out.

QBREES9 01-15-2012 11:52 AM

In Mickey Loomis i trust. It's way to early for this.

Rugby Saint II 01-15-2012 12:11 PM

Unfortunately, it's seems like a very real responsibility. Let's hope not.

Danno 01-15-2012 12:14 PM

Brees>Nicks>Greer>Colston>Vilma

We should be able to sign the top 3.

Belair57 01-15-2012 12:18 PM

im on the fence regarding Vilma..I want to say his knee was a problem most of the year, but then again, how much does he have left in the tank?

we always manage to put a decent Oline together so if Nicks needs to walk, I hate to say it but let him so we can keep greer and colston.

Nicks is our best O-lineman. Keeping Brees upright is much more crucial than keeping Colston.

Colston is much easier to replace than Nicks.

Agree. If this was the case, we would have tried to trade him for a draft pick or something. We would not just let one of the best guards walk out the door with nothing in return. Colston might be out, I don't like it but we know we are going to lose somebody we like.

saintfan 01-15-2012 01:00 PM

I would like to speculate that the NFL will be expanding by acquiring the Canadian Football League. This is expected to happen prior to the Draft in April.

LivnaLieTimay 01-15-2012 01:59 PM

Loomis is a very good GM and I think there's a chance we can sign Brees, Nicks and Colston. Crunching the numbers to include signing bonuses is complicated but I think Loomis can do it. 2 guys I can see us parting ways with are Vilma and Will Smith. They're the 2nd and 3rd highest paid guys on our team and they're on the backside of their careers. Again, I don't know what the cap hit would be because of signing bonuses but I think we could take the hit and sign some of the younger guys. Franklin is also coming off our cap and he's the 9th highest paid guy on the team.

I think Brees, Nicks, and Colston are 3 guys who I have confidence in being good players for many years. Giving them bigger signing bonuses won't count against the cap and will give them guaranteed money. I also saw Greer’s name mentioned in this thread but he’s still under contract next year.

Unfortunately we are going to have to part ways with some good players; I would just rather part ways with some of our older players. I should add that figuring out the salary cap of an NFL team is confusing and I could be off on these numbers. I’m just going based on what I looked up so take all of this with a grain of salt.

No way in hell Brees let's them lose Nicks! I agree with Danno & CharityMike on this one. Colston is much easier to replace than Carl Nicks. There are good possession receivers that will go in the 2nd through 4th rounds in this years draft. Reuben Randall is one I would love in the second. Anybody that can make Jordan Jefferson look decent could turn into a budding star with Drew Brees. ;-)

Can't leave anywhere with a franchise tag.

jcp026 01-15-2012 08:59 PM

Greer is a free agent too?

No..he has 1 more year.

lynwood 01-15-2012 11:37 PM

We need to keep the offense in tact at least. So sign Brees, Colston, and Nicks. Rebuild the Defense with some young guns. If a bunch of no names can do it in SF than we can do it here.

Brees, Nicks and Colston will be retained yes we will loose a name on offense but not these 3

xan 01-16-2012 08:44 AM

Just out of curiosity, what reason would Nicks give for leaving? Lack of respect? Bad team? No money?

???

I must assume (as Adam is) that the Saints won't be able to afford him after they sign Brees to a $150 million contract. Two guards in the top ten is awfully expensive, but since our guards are more critical protectecting Brees than tackles, I think they sign him and don't even hesitate.

mikesaintfan 01-16-2012 08:59 AM

maybe we can trade will smith to the vikings...lol.that will free some moneyfo nicks..on a side note, why does will smith never roam to other places on the line? most of the great ones are moved around to confuse the o-line and possibly allow different o-linemen to have to stop them...just wondering

jeanpierre 01-16-2012 09:13 AM

If Nicks were to leave, he'll be franchised first before, and we'd get value; in fact, If the Saints consider they can't afford to All-Pro Guards, Evans could be traded and Nicks would like be retained...
