The Breaking News Williams topic begs this question

Did Fisher's hiring this week effect our outcome. Was Williams mentally gone already. Did the players know. They are people just like us. Not Robots. They see, hear, read everything we do. It just makes one wonder about the timing of Fisher's hiring and his connection to Gregg what distractions that may bring.

SapperSaint 01-15-2012 03:07 PM

Very interesting.....

We need to hire Chavis from LSU or Alabama's D Coord.

I don't think so. I think our D played hard all game and collapsed in the last 5 minutes of the game. We've seen this before out of them... it's one of their patterns of failure.

Gregg Williams and the Defense wanted to win that game as much as anyone else... they just aren't the bunch that can bring us to the Superbowl again in their current configuration.

Leave him alone. He's fine right where he's at.

saintsfan1976 01-15-2012 04:34 PM

No

Our defense has been playing this poorly for two years.

It would seem that how good our defense hinged on Sharpers interceptions and when Sharper was taken out or left... so did our defensive success.

I hate to admit it, but we now have 2 years of proof.

Now all we need is to find a young ball hawking Hall-of-Fame Free Safety. No problem there.

Honey Badger next year in the draft? :)

Not to hijak..but I think he would make an excellent FS. Maybe im crazy but it seemed to me that he did the most damage when he was playing FS.

Back on topic, that thought crossed my mind as well. I listened to Paytons press conference and he didn't want to talk one iota about anything defensively related.

gandhi1007 01-15-2012 06:09 PM

Honey Badger will be at LSU next year.

True but I think we were stating for the year after. I say give Jenkins one more year with a different DC and see what happens. If it is the same we make a move.

True. With no pass rush any safety will get toasted. They aren't CB's. They can only cover for so long.

With our feeble pass rush, Ed Reed would look bad (well, maybe just average).

Martez Wilson looked pretty FAST on that blitz a few weeks ago...

Yeah he did. I mentioned in a previous thread that he was in the picture in the sacks yesterday. Had the person that actually got the sack missed he was right there. He is our future at SLB and I am excited!!

Can you blame him?

LOL. While I would love the idea of that tenacity, I don't see Gruden taking anything less than a head coaching job.....even if he does love New Orleans.

Why? What's he going to do? Sneer at the camera every five minutes?

breesfan27 01-15-2012 11:47 PM

I wouldn't mind getting Mike Nolan. He did a pretty decent job in Denver. I guess I'm not really familiar with Spagnola's work, but if he's any good, bring him in.

QBREES9 01-16-2012 12:08 AM

I really thought the was the best the defense played all year. Except for the end of the game.

SAINTstunna 01-16-2012 01:57 AM

Don't forget we need a lot of help at line backer position as well

And that player has shown up since Sharper departure. Safeties like Sharper, Reed and Troy they have good instincts and Jenkins will get there as his years in the league continue

As with all a Gregg Williams players, they take a lot of time to develop because of his 70 billion blitz packages and sub-packages and sub-sub-packages.

Bring in a Defensive Coordinator without a playbook the size of a New York phone book and you'd probably see more of this young talent get on the field and make plays sonner.

I like the "Knock 'em the **** out" mentality, but not when its located in Chapter 7, article 4, Section 3, Subset A, Item 6 of the playbook.

xan 01-16-2012 08:31 AM

Gruden's expertise is offense, not defense.
