Do I have an unhealthy relationship with the Saints?

24 hours later I only feel worse. Its not only that we lost, but its the fashion that we lost. We AMAZINGLY came back from a -5 TO deficit and lost in the final 1:30 seconds in the game. Those of you who know me know that I am a pessimist. I am a pessimist so hopefully I won't be let down because I know how much emotion I have about these games. I slept all day, which is not good for me anyway, and I cannot bring myself to get dressed or even get out of the house to get smokes. Now we have to wait months during that long black period before even the draft which at least gives us a little excitement. Im not only mad, I am seriously depressed. What do you guys do to make yourself feel better.

Belair57 01-15-2012 04:50 PM

no, its a normal response. I couldnt fall asleep until 3:30am!! thats really really unlike me. I was bummed during the game, after the game, and still am..

The Dude 01-15-2012 04:52 PM

IM prone to depression anyway and its seasonal. it comes up this time of year anyway, at least we were in the postseason I guess.

W. Kovacs 01-15-2012 04:53 PM

I've often "Joked" that I need to be on the show "Intervention" for my football addiction.

I should not be this depressed over a daggone football game.

So, I feel your pain; and if it is unhealthy, you are not the only one with the disease, my friend...

Jamessr 01-15-2012 04:57 PM

Well if this makes you feel any better....
It's the playoffs and only the best teams make it. No game was going to be easy. I was more concerned with Detriot than San Fransico and I wonder if the Saints were too... They won't admit it but I think alot of people had taken the 9er's for granted this year and a luck team.

I see alot of people blaming Greg Williams calling him names and what not but in the end it was players who blew coverage and yes.... threw interceptions and fumbled. You gotta blame them too.

yes I'm ranting.. watching Giants about to score again and can't help wondering if the Saints would have won the NFC Championship would have been in New Orleans again....

Be greatfull for the season and the team we have.

Danno 01-15-2012 04:58 PM

Remember the Falcons. That always cheers me up.

whodat4life 01-15-2012 04:59 PM

Well, look at it this way- how many teams can say they've made the playoffs 3 out of the last 4 years?16 other teams didn't even make the playoffs.next season will be here before you know it! WHO DAT!

dizzle88 01-15-2012 05:03 PM

Don't worry dude, you aren't the only one man. I was at work at 6am and i was so gutted after the game I didnt go to bed until 2am lol

One thing that I don't know if it will help you but it makes me feel happy, I think of the records we shattered and how we are the greatest offense, better than the greatest show on turf.

If we had gone on to win the superbowl I would only care about the wins and not the records we broke, but now its over it helps me to think how we owned in regular season.

When you become a saints fan, you personally sign away the gift of controlling your cholesterol level, because its way out of our hands how stressed the team can make us at times

IMO the Giants would have been more of a challenge than Green Bay

4everSaint 01-15-2012 05:25 PM

I'll be honest. If you will take this for what is worth. And this is just personal experience. If you heavily invest your emotions in things you can't control you will find yourself disappointed in life. A lot. Just pull back a bit.

niteadept 01-15-2012 06:24 PM

You just have a love for the Saints! I dare say some of the players are feeling a lot worse! I made myself get up today, showered and put on my Saints sweatshirt! I'll keep on wearing my Black n Gold and be proud of what those boyz did!

To cheer me up, I played Madden 12 and let the defense sack Ryan over and over.... Kinda made me feel better.

OldMaid 01-15-2012 06:31 PM

I agree with 4ever and others.
May I say, you most likely feel so sad for this team because they did so well. Extremely well and to get to this point and that is it.
being a fan is ok. We all are sorry Saints lost. All that hard work during the season, and to come back from so far down with SanFran49'ers, well.
Second chances in life for me, you in whatever and even the Saints don't always come around a second chance.
Umm, Dude, when have the Saints NOT stressed us out. I mean this current team of Saints , but the Saints going back all the way to day one!!!
A heart attack. A rollercoaster emotions is what you feel with this team.
Anyway, seems we are going to pull for the hometown boy in the NFC Champ and in the SB because he and his team are going to smash the 49'ers inthe NFC Champ and win against Brady and Pats in Indy for the SB as his big bro watches.
That is Eli Manning is going all the way!!
NYG won this game in Green Bay.
Like somone posted before, watch another game.

arsaint 01-15-2012 06:31 PM

I feel worse and that bad is going to be magnified by 5 when the clock hits 0:00 in Green Bay.

The Saints SHOULDA, WOULDA, COULDA won it all.

Giants would not have beat us in the Dome.

NE / Bal would not have beat us in the Dome in Indy.

We totally screwed ourselves out of a 2nd championship and that's going to sting for a VERY LONG time.

Add to that fact it was the %#@%#@%$#@^$#^ 49ers and it is 10 times worse...

Hayduke 01-15-2012 07:17 PM

I am just as obsessed with the Utah Jazz as I am the Saints. So I turn my attention to them. It helps a ton.

But like Oldmaid said it hurts cuz they were doing so well.

My employees know when the Saints lose because of my mood for sometime days after the game... My other manager told me just to stay home after the lose. I get bent and it is not good but it is what it is.

I am sad, and the Giants winning makes it worse, but the JAzz are playing the Nuggets tonight and I still have a good amount of whiskey.

foreverfan 01-15-2012 07:27 PM

I took a laxative and looked at a 49ers jersey

mike27 01-15-2012 07:40 PM

Being obsessed is a lot easier with a winning team.

One reason I don't want to tamper with Williams, though we might not have a choice is that we have done so well every year. This team was only a wing and a prayer away from another Super-Bowl, but SF played a bit dirty and Thomas got knocked out.

Still not sure how much he was hurt, kept thinking he might come back in the game.

Thankfully I go through the stages of grief pretty quick. Today I'm just irritated, and having the cover of Green Bay sucking too, makes things feel a little better.

pumpkindriver 01-15-2012 08:01 PM

A big loss affects me greatly too. Back in the previous era, with Haslett and Brooks, I'd be in a funk for 3 days after every game we lost. Now days in the regular season, when we lose its usually only one day, playoffs get me down for two. I've gotten better about it, lol. Knowing that the Packers lost helps ease the pain too. They were so quick to rub it in yesterday and I just had to run over and tell them "Pride goeth before the fall" and chastise them for their arrogance. We'll be fine next year and Go Giants, the 9ers cannot be allowed to make the SB.

OldMaid 01-15-2012 08:51 PM

I used to feel sad about a Saints lost in the old days and everybody I knew did for maybe an hour after that game ended. I knew people who had season tickets from about 1976 to the early 1990's. Thing then was that the Saints never had that big winning season. 8-8 was great. 9-7 was amazing. The Bill Kilmmer (1967)- Manning -Herbert-Brooks- years were so-so. Don't forget Keny Stabler/Dave Wilson and Richard Todd , I think was after that. Add John Fourcade . You never had a real qb and good offensive line. I always hear everyone calling out Aaron Brooks. Any Saints fans knows you had a great defense at times, but 0 offense. We fans had never experienced those big wins until these current Saints with getting to the NFC Champs that year and even losing at that point, it was still a wow feeling.
Then later winning NFC Champs and SB.
It was incredible to actually have a SB party for your home team. To not be indifferent to the teams playing. I lived in a city that was in SB one year and I never got on the bandwagon.
I think fans are feeling sad about it now because this team still has some good years. It is hard to get to this level. To have this be over in that kind of loss yesterday was really tough.
All any fan can do is hope for season 2012. :bng:

CharityMike 01-15-2012 10:01 PM

You are no different than anyone of us my friend. You get through it by coming to a place like B&G and vent it out. We have had many different threads to do so. All the posting I have been doing since yesterday has made me feel a lot better. The sting has at least been lifted. We will get em next year!!

WHO_DAT_CAT 01-16-2012 03:53 AM

I'm just trying to say to myself, it is just a game. There are winners and losers. This time, we didn't win.

Actually, I feel very grateful. The Saints have been a winning team since 2006. Think of how many games in that time that we have won!! The Superbowl isn't everything. This has been an amazing ride -- AND IT IS NOT OVER YET -- NOT BY ANY MEANS!!!!!!

I recommend refocusing on other things in your life. Try to use the time this off season to develop your life in other areas. Focus on your business, get back to the gym, get a girlfriend who loves the Saints. ( I don't know you, but you get the point. )

And, when you need to b*tch, come on back here. :-)

Hey Dude, you'll be alright ... it's normal. There's a lot of fans in a lot of NFL cities around the country that feel the same ... it's the NFL way. Only one set of fans a season gets to feel like the season's a success, maybe that's why the sport is so popular and they call it the 'Super Bowl', because it really is super.

Lot of good suggestions in this thread ... it should be pinned ... focus on offseason activities, focus on positives, logon and post with your buds, but get out and do something, it'll help. Rent that movie 'Fever Pitch', you'll enjoy it ... it pokes fun at sports addicts like us.

"A man just needs one thing in life, someone to love. If you can't give him that, then give him something to hope for. And if you can't give him that, just give him something to do."

73Saint 01-16-2012 08:41 AM

I deer hunt. Seriously, I cannot tell you how many games, playoff wins, losses, etc. I have seen from deer camp. No matter the outcome, some peace from the great outdoors helps. And occasionally putting the smack down on a deer can be helpful too.

Saturday's loss was a good bit worse than normal. I couldn't even go out and hunt the next morning. But things were fine by that afternoon. That is, until I got back to camp and found out what the giants did....
Is greg Williams gone yet? I don't get the local news up here...

G504 01-16-2012 08:51 AM

I didn't sleep at all Saturday night, either. It freakin' sucks. But the only sliver lining is, as Green Bay just proved, it's hard to repeat as Champions. So at least we didn't jinx our home Superbowl for next season.

Was looking at Green Bay's and San Fran's free agent lists, they won't lose too many people, so it won't be easy, but we play both of them, so we can get the tie breakers straight up if all three of us have 11+ win seasons again.

Saint_LB 01-16-2012 08:59 AM

For me it's like this. I am not a "one team" man. My love of sports coupled with my roots, a Mississippian, lead me to become an Ole Miss fan. You would think that this must really suck...but, wait!

Ole Miss-->Archie Manning-->Eli Manning-->GO GIANTS!!!

Here's my points. 1)In my case, it is possible for me to like more than 1 team 2)Since that is possible for me...I am not so depressed today.

Euphoria 01-16-2012 09:29 AM

Well I broke my toe watching the game!!!

jumping around like a mad man when we took the lead I banged my foot on the floor the wrong way.

Dasidreidia 01-16-2012 10:55 AM

I actually stayed away from the board most of the night. I had a beer, played a video game and went to sleep. Yesterday I hung out with two great friends of mine and it really cheered me up. By the end of the night, it didn't feel like the Saints had just lost, it just felt like another day with friends. My friends always bring me up when I get down.

JimmyB1775 01-16-2012 04:01 PM

Me and my woman got in a huge fight Saturday night. I'm sure the two were related.

OldMaid 01-16-2012 04:34 PM

Well, you had better do the flowers thing and dinner.
Buy something for her.
Sounds like you both were so into this game.

I will say that just being a fan, a tv viewer, watching these Saints during the season, sometimes, you feel so drained after.
Has that happened to others here?
And wait, watching the game with good food, good people, laughing, and after Saints win or lost, you feel drained . The ride of emotions this team gives us....
I have said, I have been honest, I did not watch the game. I saw the first qrtr. while I was finishing up cooking.
I do not think I can watch now since I know the outcome. I said, well, if they win, I'll watch the rebroadcast.
I like what 73, G, LB and Das said. Eup, get better soon. A broken toe. Gosh.

Rugby Saint II 01-16-2012 09:09 PM

After the game I laid on my ladies chest and couldn't even open my eyes for hours. I fought in my sleep all night after I finally got to sleep. The next morning it hit me when I got up and gradually got better as different people told me throughout the day that my Saints played hard.(I was sporting my gear proudly)

AlaskaSaints 01-16-2012 11:34 PM

Here's your bright side, The Dude.

Next year we will be working toward a home Superbowl Win. Never been done.

Only 1 team in 32 can be the chosen one. That takes extraordinary circumstance. This year, the stars just did not line up. But there's always THIS NEXT YEAR!!!

Alaska

QBREES9 01-17-2012 12:25 AM

I'm over it. I aready hate listening to NFL Radio Sirius 88 and hearing the 9ers hightlites. Hate it.
Moving on to are new DC, the Draft, no first round pick. Can't wait for the second round .

SaintsRule11 01-17-2012 02:14 AM

I'm very depressed here as well. It comes and goes. Knowing that we made the post-season for three straight years helps. That and knowing just how much the Falcons totally blow.

What hurts the most though is the knowledge that we should now be hosting the Giants in the NFC Championship game. We would have crushed them and then faced either the Ravens or the Patriots. I would have been totally confident of victory against either of those teams.

Oh well. There's always next year.

skymike 01-17-2012 06:25 AM

Great Post

Dude, you've just wrote your first Country Music song, and it is off the charts. Country, btw is not about sadness, but relatability. Think, "Take this job and shove it."

So you just nailed, I think, exactly how the rest of us feel. My back always hurts, Im always tired, Im always too busy... but when the Saints
win, its all good.

This particular loss sucks donkey balls, maybe the worst loss ever, because of what might have been.

Nope, you're perfectly normal. One of the posters here has a signature that says "Our City, Our Saints, Our Soul." I live in a swamp in Texas and I share that same soul. I forget sometimes that I've never actually lived in New Orleans.
