well if the Saints bomb again this year you can use this one for many reasons we have to can this leadership and players. We also got Gash so I don\'t think we actually lost anything and bringing in some new faces after a season we had isn\'t a bad thing... t-rex a mere casualty.

The Saints\' offer to Johnson eclipses what the team was willing to pay former fullback Terrelle Smith, who signed a four-year, $4,335,130 contract with the Cleveland Browns. Smith\'s contract includes annual base salaries of $535,000, $750,000, $825,000 and $1 million, a $1.075 signing bonus and roster bonuses of $25,000, $50,000 and $75,000 beginning in 2005.

I think a lot of folks forget, There was speculation that they wanted to upgrade the FB position a couple of years ago. T-rex\'s job has been in jeopardy from day one.

I remember trying to sneak Moran Norris onto the practice squad at the last second in 2002(?). Houston snatched him up in about 4 seconds. I think he was supposed to be the eventual replacement for Smith, if my memory serves.

I was hoping we would have gone after Heath Evans (AU, Seattle).
I guess just having the name Heath scared the crap out of the front office.

They had a week, so we\'ll find out friday.

I like what we\'ve done with the FB position, if we can sign Johnson.
Johnson is young, a good blocker, and can catch out of the back field.
Gash is a great leader, and counts almost nothing against the cap, as the charge for the vet minimum is only $450,000.

Overall, I think the position may be upgraded.

Fox Sports\' John Czarnecki reports the Washington Redskins won\'t be able to match the New Orleans Saints\' offer sheet to restricted free-agent FB Bryan Johnson.
Hmm, good news if true. I\'ll rejoice when Friday passes.

I read where if they do match, they will be unable to re-sign one of their talented up and coming LINEBACKERS they targeted for re-signing.

Hmmm, I wonder if Loomis is trying the old bait and switch. If Wash matches, we immediately sign this LB (I forget his name) to an offer sheet that Wash can\'t match.
I\'ll be back, I\'m gonna get the skinny on that LB.

Antonio Pierce, 6-2 240, from Arizona.
Didn\'t play much at all last year (15 tackles). I wonder why they desire to keep him so much?
Anybody know anything about him?

while searching for info on antonio pierce, i found this lil tid bit about duece...

Former Mississippi running back Deuce McAllister was the second running back taken in the 2001 NFL Draft. McAllister was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 23rd overall pick. This is the eighth and final in a series of Draft Diaries from McAllister.

I was a little frustrated that I didn\'t get drafted earlier, but this may be a blessing in disguise for me being picked up by New Orleans. Saturday was a dream come true for me despite the fact that I fell a little bit from where I was projected. I\'m still getting an opportunity to play in the NFL and with a good team. Now it makes the road to the Super Bowl that much shorter.

From a guy starting his senior season as the No. 1 prospect in the country and not being picked until 23rd, it leaves me with something to prove as a player. Losing money is the only thing that really happens by dropping down in the draft. But I\'ll trade in a couple of million dollars for a Super Bowl ring anytime. If you go out and perform, you\'ll make the money up later.

the only thing that i can find on Antonio Pierce is that he had 42 tackles as a rookie n hasnt played much since that year... i couldnt even find out what round he was drafted in so i suspect that he was a rookie FA so no compensation would have to be provided for signing him....
