Would like to have Williams

Doubt Saints will have the money after re-signing our FAs!!

ProFootballWeekly.com - What will Texans do with Mario Williams?

Halo 01-23-2012 02:42 PM

I would love to have Mario Williams. We need a big player addition to the defense either on the line or at linebacker.

dizzle88 01-23-2012 02:45 PM

I would be happy to ship someone like Will smith away if we got Mario Williams, make Will smith lower his pay because he isn't performing for how much he's earning.
Mario would be a great addition to the team

Speedy Ron 01-23-2012 04:02 PM

he is better than both will smith and cam jordan combined

jcp026 01-23-2012 04:41 PM

ABSOLUTELY! We can't afford it, but we haven't had a dominate pass rusher for a while. Smith had a really good season in '09, but we've had a pass rushing drought for several seasons now. Maybe Smith will take a pay cut or just be replaced by Smith. Maybe Ellis gets a pay cut (his production this season doesn't live up to his pay check). Maybe Greer gets a cap friendly extension. A lot of maybes. I don't like our odds.

We totally can't afford him.

gandhi1007 01-23-2012 05:19 PM

After missing all of last season with an injury, he will be cheaper than alot of people think. Signing him could be very possible if we were to lose, say......Will Smith.

Danno 01-23-2012 06:08 PM

If we decide to let Brees walk, we can afford him.

That will not happen! ;)

Exactly the point.

alleycat_126 01-23-2012 11:10 PM

Mario is Reggie Bush on the Defense. Flashy can get six to eight sacks a season but no more. He is a warrior no doubt but more than likely injured and not effective in the long term

Mario is Reggie Bush on defense??? Other than being drafted in the same season, Mario is nothing like Reggie Bust! Williams averaged 10-12 sacks per season other than his rookie season & this year when he was out all season. He's been a monster for Houston, man & I was one that thought he was over-rated in college. Hell.....he had 5 sacks & a forced fumble this year & he only played in 5 games!

Boutte 01-24-2012 12:33 AM

It be strange seeing him in Black & Gold. Good, but really strange.

Uh Halo...a strange analogy for a big huge football lineman type...take backs allowed. I think of how good it would be to have him on our line you think of having him elsewhere. Things that make you go hmmmm!

skymike 01-24-2012 08:22 AM

its ok Halo, we have tolerance and diversity and all that crap around here.
we had a dress parade, for pete's sake.

I dont know about Mario? Does he still have it? Would he break the bank? sounds risky.

FinSaint 01-24-2012 09:41 AM

...and so would other 31 teams around the league, and many with the cap room to spend on such a purchase.

Well, Brees himself said in an interview during the pre-season that Daniel is a chubby version of him.

So, let Brees walk, get Daniel to shed a couple of pounds, and we're good to go!

JoanieNTX 01-24-2012 04:11 PM

I'm not SERIOUSLY hearing ANYONE ok with letting Drew go, am I? Cuz if that's so, I wanna know what you guys have been smoking??? ;) I think I'm a Drew fan for LIFE.....he better NOT go anywhere.

UK_WhoDat 01-24-2012 05:34 PM

Williams would be super awesome. Guess it will have to remain an "if only"

FinSaint 01-24-2012 05:40 PM

Williams + Ahmad Brooks = LBs sorted.

I'd love to see Vilma work between those two guys as opposed to Shanle and Herring.

I mean, during the past 3 regular seasons ('09/'10/'11) those two guys have a combined sack production of half a sack per each game they played in.

That would be 8 sacks per regular season from the OLBs... I'd take that.

Rugby Saint II 01-25-2012 03:44 PM

Unfortunately we can't afford him.imho

Marlboro Man 01-25-2012 06:10 PM

This guy has never lived up to his #1 overall pick & y'all want him on our team? Not me.

People on this,(and other) foums, said Bush was/is a bust and never lived up to his #2 pick either and he got to the NFCC game his rookie year and helped the Saints win a Super Bowl in '09!!

Bush has been a helluva lot more injury prone in his career with the Saints than Williams has with the Texans.

If the Saints can get him and keep Brees, Nicks, Colston and a majority of the other FAs, I am all for it.

Agreed. Gonna say this once: I'm glad Bush is gone, we have a cheaper, more integrated replacement in Sproles.

That said, BUSH IS NOT/WAS NOT A BUST! Now he's at Miami as their leading rusher......

When are people going to get over that fact. He's a successful starting runningback in the NFL. Nuff Said.

QBREES9 01-26-2012 09:07 AM

I would love to have Mario Williams. Mickey do your magic.

Probowl in 2007, 2008 and 2009, ALL-PRO in 2008 and 2009, averages 9.5 sacks per season, 46 tackles/season, 2 FF/season.

Is there some other Mario Williams you may be referring to?

I was thinking this same exact thing because going over his career stats it is very clear that he has been producing very good numbers starting with his rookie season, and better yet his production curve has been increasing - if it were not for his injuries this season I have no doubts that he would be in Hawaii right now.

Maybe because he plays for the Texans people overlook the level at which he plays?!

saintsfan1976 01-26-2012 10:16 AM

Shoulda drafted him in 06

I think that's a hard one to sell.

I still think Bush was the correct pick in that draft - he was drafted for what he was able to do: create overall excitement and pull off circus-like feats on the field.

How would we have done that? He was already picked.

alexonfyre 01-26-2012 03:31 PM

A good write up of Reggie by Mel Kiper, on ESPN Insider:

Quote:

People who want to call Bush a bust simply aren't watching the tape. He's only a disappointment if you had Hall of Fame projections because of where he was taken. But Bush has done plenty. Not only is he fourth in this draft class in rushing yards (and he'll be higher when he's finished), Bush has 337 catches. For context, consider that Santonio Holmes, a Round 1 pick who's had a pretty good career thus far, has 338. Bush was a key part of a Saints renaissance and Super Bowl team, and he clearly has a lot left after a great year running the ball.

the only other people i would have wanted in that first round really were tamba hali and haloti ngata. other than that id take the bush pick. it set off a string of events that were more long term beneficial. ex: sproles
