More detail to the Bush trade to Miami...

@jvarneyTPJames Varney

Saints will swap 6th round picks with Miami as last piece of Reggie Bush trade.

@wwltvsportsWWL-TV Sports

Loomis said the #Saints traded sixth-round picks with the #Dolphins in the trade for Bush, which also netted the team Jon Amaya.

saintfan 01-23-2012 03:59 PM

Well, it's better than letting him walk.

neugey 01-23-2012 04:00 PM

Oh well ... something is better than nothing. Even if it's close :)

Speedy Ron 01-23-2012 04:01 PM

better than nothing but given the way he played this season dolphins got a great deal. whats funny is that he was so $h!tty here that that was the best deal we could get.

jcp026 01-23-2012 04:42 PM

That's awful. We don't even get a sixth outright. We just get a swap. I don't like it, but I guess it is better than nothing, if only slightly.

Getting Bush out of here was a good enough reward for me. I'd have settled for a six pack and a bag of chips. Losing him dropped my blood pressure 20 points instantly.

I second that opinion of Reggie Bust.

Can't really call Bush a bust; a disappointment, yes!

I don't ever remember us getting the better end of a trade under Loomis' watch...

I agree that if a guy has got to be moved, move 'em...

But, Damn, I can't see why when we traded Jammal Brown we got so little in return and Washington had come asking us for the ProBowler...

Euphoria 01-23-2012 09:14 PM

we also got a Special teams player in the trade name slips me at the moment.

No.....You can definately label him a bust. Oh, let me count the ways.....Only 1 1,000+ yds season rushing, more fumbles than touchdowns, can't run up the middle, is scared to get hit, & after drafting him #2 overall.....all we managed was a swap of 6th round picks for him. Yep.....I'd say that's just cause for labeling him a bust. ;-)

We'll Trade that pick too!

halloween 65 01-23-2012 09:52 PM

I look at it as getting 3 players to compensate for him, replaced by Sproles and we know how that was+ Amaya= special teams, and a swap in the 6th= could turn out to be a starter or quality back-up. I think we made out good.

What a difference an extra "n" makes... :D

Would've been nice to get more than a few places of an improvement on a draft pick, but Bush and his contract had to go.

Amaya was also a good add-on, and while he is a FA - he is an ERFA (Exclusive Rigths Free Agent), which means he has to sign with the Saints if they extend him a minimum qualifying offer.

Honestly, Reggie DID have a few good games and signs of greatness. All of them didn't add up to any one of his annual salaries. But here's where I find humor in the situation. Sean Payton, the mad scientist, couldn't make Reggie a decent player. So we traded him for a metaphorical six pack and bag of chips. Swapping 6th rounders for the lowest pick is the second most insulting trade deal out there. Obviously 7th is the worst. So while we got sproles for a fraction of Bush's final salary, Bush has to sleep knowing all he was worth was a backup DB and moving down the draft board 10-15 spots in the second most unimportant round. And now with little passing attack, he can get the touches necessary to finally eclipse 1,000 yards.
He could even go as far as 2,000 and I still wouldn't complain about the deal.

SAINTstunna 01-24-2012 10:09 AM

Yep, we saved a ton of money and if we made the trade a year or two earlier we would gotten a lot more for him. by the time we traded him he was damaged goods and everyone knew we had to pull the trigger with him.

SmashMouth 01-24-2012 10:29 AM

I guess it's good... IDK why ... but I keep remembering a 4th rounder or something .... obviously wrong ... we've done well with 6th rounders of late... and we got a decent DB.

RaginCajun83 01-24-2012 11:12 AM

At least they got something for Bush besides just letting him walk, to bad it couldn't have been a performance based type of pick like with Jammal Brown cause Loomis would have really ripped the Dolphins off

Halo 01-24-2012 11:35 AM

2 things happened here:

1) we went in another direction and freed up a lot of cap money
2) Bush worked with Loomis to have him traded to an OUT OF CONFERENCE team.

Think about the reaplacement we got and for the savings? You cannot beat this trade.

Just think, Bush DOES NOT play for Atlanta, Carolina or Tampon Bay!

QBREES9 01-24-2012 11:39 AM

Darren Sproles ! We also got the Dolphins second round pick as well.

SapperSaint 01-24-2012 12:30 PM

So what did we get from Miami for Bush?

I know one of you Stat Kings out there is googling this right now! We need answers.

QBREES9 01-24-2012 12:38 PM

Safety Jonathon Amaya and undisclosed draft picks.

QBREES9 01-24-2012 12:39 PM

Why can't I find out all the details of this trade.

SapperSaint 01-24-2012 12:44 PM

It's a "Hush Hush/Need to Know" type of thing Q. :-P

i wish he DID play for one of those teams. He SUCKS!!!! just stand in front of him and you know he is headed for the sidelines or if you touch him he will go down. why are people scared of reggie bush?!?!?!?

Amaya (who is ERFA) and the switcheroo with the 6 round picks - that is all.

...well not quite all - we also got the weekly relief of him playing for another team.

ScottF 01-24-2012 03:28 PM

so, go back 5 1/2 years when the city was ECSTATIC that Houston took Williams, leaving us Bush.
Who knows what would have happened?

Don't get me wrong... Bush was exactly the right pick for the Saints all things considered.

It's hard to see how picking a defensive player would've created the same atmosphere of excitement, and while Williams had a fine rookie season it wasn't until 2007-2008 when his true potential shone through.

Also, having Deuce as the workhorse helped Bush tremendously, and he wouldn't have had that in Houston.
