Porter is coming off of his fourth NFL season, and 2011 was a decent one for him, recording 52 tackles and 1 interception. Since he started getting regular playing time in 2009, Porter has always hovered right around these numbers. He’s certainly not a guy who jumps off the page at you, but he has shown potential in his young career to maybe become a Pro Bowler.

I can't believe I almost typed:

At this point, and after his performance over the last two years, they can have him...

I almost jumped right out there and typed it!

SP has always liked Porter. Porter's production dropped off when they moved him to the slot position in favor of the under achieving Patrick Robinson. I think it kind of upset Porter to be supplanted that way by someone who didn't do any better and actually did a worse job than Porter. I think Porter would love to stay but Spags would have to show him some support that he didn't get from GW whose defenses got worse every year instead of better.

Ageed!! I kind of think he could become an excellent safety. He's fast enough, I don't know if he is heavy enough.

I personally would be OK with seeing Porter leave, because he would want a much bigger contract than the ~$1M/year he was on previously, and with Greer's big contract - I don't think they can afford to pay Porter that type of a money, because there are no guarantees that he suddenly turns his game around.

Greer is a much better corner than Porter, and he'll be a UFA in 2013, so the Saints might draft a corner high in the 2013 draft to compliment Robinson - who I think is much better than most here give him credit for - and Patrick. Then they could use that money they are able to free-up to sign Graham into a loooong new contract in 2013.

The Vikes definitely need secondary help in a big way and it might be a good fit for Porter, although, they've been talking about going as big in the secondary as possible to combat Megatron and GB's numerous WRs, so Porter might not be what they're looking for.

Seems like everybody on defense forgot how to tackle last season..
I don't fully understand how this defense went from a highly ranked Superbowl elites to near last in every good category and first in every bad category..
