just read on kffl that the bears have traded an undisclosed draft pick to the skins for FB Johnson (the guy we just tried to sign)

guess our offer made him to expensive for the skins to keep him but they wanted some kind of compensation for him

my question is: if we really wanted this guy then why didn't we jump in trade negotiations?

ESPN\'s John Clayton reports the New Orleans Saints were willing to give a draft choice to reacquire FB Bryan Johnson after the Washington Redskins matched their four-year, $4.12 million restricted free agent option sheet. Instead, he was traded by the Redskins to the Bears for a sixth-round draft choice. The Saints might have been willing to give the Redskins a fifth for Johnson, but restricted free agency rules prohibited a matching team trading a player back to the team that signed him to an offer sheet.
