Metallica, AC/DC, would be cool and different than the past selections.

Its gotta be a band that appeals to millions of middle aged viewers and attendees.

Metallica or AC/DC would be a horrible decision.

Metallica appeals to plenty of people. Metallica has been around since the 80s, and it's in the top 5 or 6 in the list of highest grossing bands ever. Dudes can still rock. It'd be a great show.

I will say as much as I like Metallica and love me some AC/DC I am not sure it would be a good halftime show. I would enjoy it, but I am not sure I fit the traditional middle age demographic.

Well considering how old those bands are the biggest part of their fanbase is actually middle aged...

From that list my choice would be the Foo Fighters, I might even watch the halftime show for once if they were performing.

I'm middle aged and grew up with those bands. I think AC/DC would probably appeal to more than Metallica but with past acts I don't think they were looking for appeal but rather Big name acts that were going to be "safe".

Pretty much everything before 1990 was marching bands. Peformance of note would be in 1980 of George Burns, Mickey Rooney.

I think out side of landing a Big name band they usualy go for broader demographic appeal with a wide list of performers. Country though is left out in the cold(1994,2003) if you don't consider Shania Twain country then only 1994.

1990-Pete Fountain, Doug Kershaw, Irma Thomas,
1991- New Kids on the Block,

1993-Michael Jackson

1998-Boyz II Men, Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves, The Temptations, Queen Latifah, Grambling State University Band
1999-Chaka Khan, Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Savion Glover, Kiss
2000-Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton
2001-Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Nelly
2002-U2
2003-Shania Twain, No Doubt, Sting
