Expect more FAs to visit the Saints

New Orleans Saints fans should expect to see some more visits from free agent players, especially on defense, within the next month. The NFL Combine is next week which could raise or lower the boom on how many the team look at.

Followers of Who Dat Nation pounced on the news yesterday when it was announced that the Saints had brought in former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu for a visit.

Speculation began about why he was brought in and what it meant. Was he here to replace current midde linebacker Jonathan Vilma? Would all the Scott Shanle haters finally get their wish and see him replaced? Etc., etc…

Expect to see more free agent visits to the New Orleans Saints

" Steve Spagnuolo actually tried to lure Shanle away last year when he was head coach of the St. Louis Rams."

I just:censored:threw up in my mouth.

Shanle is the least problem with the Saints defense

That's debatable

Shanle may not be a play-maker and is on the down-slope of his career, but it could have always been worse.

Well, under Spagnuolo, we'll see who'll shine and who'll fade...

I wouldn't say "least". There are bigger issues......granted, but Shanle is a big problem as well.

But it is also up to the coaches to take the players you have and put them in a position where they can succeed. I kinda felt GW didn't always do this, leaving Shanle and Harper alone in coverage a lot for example.

... could I get a 'head's up' if Cliff Avril happens to wander into town? Or even Stephen Tulloch for that matter?

Free agent DE Cliff Avril made it clear that he will not give the Lions a hometown discount on a long-term contract.

"There's no such thing as a hometown discount in the NFL," Avril said. "Once you can't play anymore, they're going to let you go, so you definitely have to strike gold when you can. ... You only hit free agency once or twice in your career, so you definitely have to take advantage of it." Look for Avril to be hit with the franchise tag if he can't come to agreement with the Lions over the next three weeks.

I really really like Avril... since college. I just can't see it happening here with the Saints having 3 big name free agents.

SloMotion 02-17-2012 07:43 AM

Yeah, and the Lions front office isn't going to play the F/A game this either, or so they've said. That makes sense though, if all's he's looking for is a big contract, the Saints aren't going to have room for him either ... he'll probably end up with the Cowgirls or some other team with deep pockets if they don't franchise him.

Both Shanle and Harper played every down last season, I also felt in G.W.'s style they were left in a bad way, way to much.

I don't care who he bring just bring in a damn pass rusher.

We won't pay anyone else good money before we pay our own. Whoever we bring in will have to understand that winning is worth more than money.

... well, I guess technically even after a signing it could still be considered a head's-up,
