What if Drew signed with the Dolphins

Worse part of that scenario would be the Saints moving to LA.

I would have to find something else to do with my weekends because I would/will stop watching football if the Saints ever leave Lousiana!!

Funny part about that is he says they still wouldn't have won a championship, and right now they still need a qb !!!

We would have been fine. Payton had a rep for getting the most out of his QB's and I think we'd have found someone capable of succeeding. Probably a mid-upper tier QB like a Romo (who Payton wanted here) or a Freeman/Ryan type.

I think too many people short-change Payton in the Payton-Brees combination. Brees was a very good, but not elite QB before he teamed up with Payton.

That N'if'L stuff is pretty silly but quite fun.

You made the point I was going to make before I read your post. Cam Cameron / Drew Brees would without question, have yielded a much less fruitful career for Brees. Payton has done so much for Drew's career, I think anyone would agree with this, especially Drew.

it's comical, yet somehow depressing; "if" that were to have happened.

i think drew was starting to get respect before his shoulder injury. not top tier but up there. he was on his way to a great career with or without payton. my take anyway.

RailBoss 02-22-2012 03:50 PM

I'm convinced that if Brees went to Miami we would not have even seen the SuperBowl.

I agree, I myself am I Bengals fan. I wouldn't feel the same way about the NFL ever again. Los Angeles doesn't deserve a team. They had two teams in the 90s and they couldn't keep them. Why do they deserve a second chance? They've got the Chargers!!!

QBREES9 02-23-2012 12:09 AM

The Saints not in New Orleans. That would be a very sad. Glad it never happen. Drew Breeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees !

MatthewT 02-23-2012 02:01 AM

Hard to say what would have really happened? First of all, if Brees hadn't signed with the Saints, I truly believe the Saints would have drafted Matt Leinart. Who really knows how that would have turned out, Leinart may have been an all pro in Sean Payton's system, who knows.

Saints moving to Los Angeles, that would have been a kill shot in my book, I would probably have been done with football for good. San Antonio, maybe a chance that I still tune in.

Needless to say we should all be thankful that the Saints stayed in New Orleans, got a brand new Superdome, Drew Brees has been great, the Saints actually won a Super Bowl, and are a perennial contender at this time to win another big one!

RailBoss 02-23-2012 08:15 AM

10 - 4 But it would have taken every bit of SP's skills to mold Leinart into a top notch QB.

You are absolutely correct. You have to give credit to Loomis and the Benson's for putting it all together, though. Whether it was luck or genius I don't know, but they have hit it out of the park on several acquisitions and that just doesn't happen a lot. It didn't happen here for 40+ years.

RaginCajun83 02-23-2012 08:55 AM

If the Saints would have moved to SA or LA, I would have rooted against them with about the same amount of hate that I have for the Cowboys and Falcons ... not saying I would have completely had turned off football but I would have moved on to another team .... thank god that didn't happen

st thomas 02-23-2012 09:44 AM

it would have buried louisiana, miss, portions of alabama. and thats the reason it never would have happened. if ever there is a team thats leaving the south its tampon bay.

BryanDurel 02-24-2012 02:34 AM

i would die if drew became a dolphin. like want to die of hiv die :(

SloMotion 02-24-2012 06:41 AM

Saints in LA would be like the Jazz in Utah ... just wouldn't seem right ...

Actually the name fits perfectly.

A team called the Saints in a city called the Angels.

Actually Romo was SP's first choice but Parcells wouldn't let him go. In hindsight though, that worked to our favor as we got Brees.

Nah, the Saints came marching in to New Orleans, not the City of Angels and LA would just take that song and 'crunk' it up or something ...

Supertek 02-27-2012 11:51 AM

Lord please let the deal for Brees happen quickly. I think Payton gets way to much credit here. Bress doesn,t come here we dont have a superbowl win period.
