Akiem Hicks

NFL Scouting Combine preview: Scrutiny to come down on Vontaze Burfict - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

Have anyone heard of this guy Akiem Hicks he's a tranfer from LSU.

Looks good.

FinSaint 02-22-2012 02:04 PM

Yeah, he is among the tall DTs I'd like for the Saints to take a close look at.

Some mock drafts have him going fairly high, but then others have him going in the low rounds, so he might be a steal maybe with the other 6th round pick.

Luda34 02-22-2012 02:14 PM

Why did he transfer from LSU

|Mitch| 02-22-2012 02:30 PM

The NCAA revoked his college eligibility in a ruling of LSU recruitment of him...

I have no idea what the issue with the recruiting was however;

The Regina Rams footage up above is from Canada...

Akiem Hicks, a former LSU Tigers prized recruit caught up in scandal, is finding his way playing college football in Canada - College Football News | FOX Sports on MSN

is this a high school highlight reel or college. it looks like he is playing against high school kids. these teams cant be that good..i didnt see one fan in the stands. that means they are so bad parents even stayed home

It wouldn't hurt to look at him but playing Canadian football teams and playing college powerhouse teams over here are 2 different animals. A possible, maybe??

|Mitch| 02-22-2012 05:37 PM

The Regina Rams are a Canadian college football team, but seeing as he was the 20th ranked junior college prosepect, kid has to have talent...

I'll forward this to Sean. Although he probably already has it.

he looks to be a nice project player and worth a pick. DT that big and fast are hard to find.

I remember hearing something along these lines before we drafted Ellis.

Well, Ellis is listed at 6-1 and 307 lbs, while Hicks is listed at 6-6 and 320 lbs, so there's quite a difference in size, and more than likely in mobility as well, between the two.

He would be a project, but perhaps Spags would be the right guy to nurture his mental side to the same level his physique already is..?

Maybe so. I think I am just so gun shy in regards to DT we get. They rarely pan out.

True, but they desperately need a DT or two, who can really make a difference, and the draft is the cheapest way to get those game changing players.

Also, there's the added benefit of teaching the guy the particular system the Saints/Spags uses as their first pro system, and not having to deal with the stuff they've been taught by other DCs in the past.

I think Spags can make a huge difference in this aspect of player development, or should I say, I hope he can make a huge difference.

Anything that would be an improvement other than play with what we have mentality. Combo of size and speed looks good but could he be that good against the talent in the S.E.C. not so sure. Looks like he may be worth a chance though.

Besides the size, another big difference is the fact that we'll end up drafting Hicks in the 4th, 5th, or 6th rounds and we took Ellis in the 1st.

SloMotion 02-28-2012 07:33 AM

Burfict sure laid an egg at the Combine ... wouldn't do the bench press and 300lb+ offensive linemen were beating his 40-time of 5.1 or something. Add this to his propensity for personal fouls and he's quite the draft choice ... not.
