Drafting the heir apparent

I would really like to see Colston stay and Meachum go and then in the third round take a flyer on Brian Quick out of App St.

Brian Quick

He is a big, tall, physical guy who is deceptively fast. I'd like to see him opposite Colston with Graham on the line and Moore in the slot. That formation on a Third and goal at the 5. Who are you going to cover?

risky pick with what could be a load of upside. but if colston leaves i hope the saints make a move to get

Reuben Randle.
Of all the WR in this years draft he looks to have the complete game to plug into the offense.

Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
never can tell he blistered the 40 at the combine. could move ahead of Randle in the draft

we do need a back up at the slot. be it a true slot WR like

Joe Adams, WR/KR, Arkansas

but the WR i like in the draft is:

WR Danny Coale of Virginia Tech 6'0 201 4.45

excellent route runner and seems to have that gives 110% on every play. smart and soft hands. never can have enough of those types on the team.

we have the best slot in the game in Moore

Reuben Randle will not be there for the Saints in the second round. If we let Colston we better look for a good back up WR who's not scared to do the things Colston's was afraid to do.

Good crop of solid mid round prospects at WR. Shouldn't be a big issue to address. That said, we need to re-sign at least one of Colston or Meachem... if not we'll be quite thin. The prospect of having Devery and Moore being 1-2 is not that appealing to say the least.

You guys are forgetting, Joe Morgan who I think is gonna blow up this year, and AA waiting in the wings not only are we going to be just fine, we might be even better. There are a couple big/fast WRs in the draft that I think we can get to bring along over the next 3 yrs.

Don't forget we Lost Curtis Johnson the receivers coach. Meachem and Henderson both had drops problems when they got here. He's taken PS and late round guys and really developed them. It's not so easy to make a player NFL ready much less excel at his position.

Yeah losing Curtis Johnson is potentially gonna be a big deal. How much of a role did he play in making these relative "nobodies" and low draft picks look so darn good out there, or was it just good scouting, or Drew, or all of the above. We have to stay optimistic and see how the team handles it.

Agreed, CJ will definitely be missed. As an example, look what happened to our secondary when Dennis Allen left. Your point is taken, I just hope our next WR coach is at least comparable.

Arrington may not be a special teams ace, but he made some grabs in the playoffs and that's worth considering...

Oh and he too was a Round 7 pick...;)

SmashMouth 02-29-2012 10:00 AM

yeah ... we may already have enough on the PS in Tanner, Morgan, AA, etc to make up for a Colston loss. Brees has always been and is the key to this offense. He can make just about any wr shine. Let us not forget a decent OL too; that means keeping Nicks.
