The combine
 

Has anyone been looking at the combine I watch a little last night when they were talking about the DE and LB and one thing I notice is that Hightower the LB for Alabama he is one of the slows LB out there. If anyone has been looking at the combine who stands to you.

Yeah, but he has a huge body for a LB. Hightower will never be a coverage LB that should be clear if you saw his other drills - his hips are just not flexible enough as they should be in order for him to do that - but what he will excel at is pass rush and run defense... and that is the kind of LB I want the Saints to pick with at least one of their picks. I think he ran a good 40 for his body type, nothing special, but he didn't hurt himself either with that performance.

Overall, the LB class looked really good, there'll be many good LB prospects around even in the lower rounds. Hopefully, this means that it'll be "bye, bye" for both Herring and Shanle.

Hightower ran a 4.6 whatever... which is quite impressive for a LB his size. I was expecting around 4.8. He actually increased his chances in getting picked higher. He's probably going to have to move inside at the next level and would make a stud 3-4 ILB imo.

Not filled with star power, but the LB crop looks to have a bunch of sleepers.

Hightower slow? At 6-2, 265 4.62 is fast. Its faster than Ray Lewis, who ran a 4.79/4.81

He was projected at 4.7 to 4.8. He just moved into the 1st round with that time.

Well there goes our shot at him. I was impressed with several of the LB'ers(both inside and out) but I don't remember any names. The defensive end class looked good, but I watched the DT with the most interest. Not overly loaded with talent but a couple of good looking prospects. I know it's supposed to be a good year for them. I also was impressed by the number of supposedly "high character guys" that they talked about. Overall now I feel somewhat hopeful about the LB'ers that could fall to us in the second.

There's a big drop off after the first 3-4 DTs and by the time we draft we may not be able to get one of the better ones and we've BEEN needing to upgrade our DTs. If we can't get one of the better ones, there are a couple FAs we might be able to get that could get us a year or two to find someone and there's a couple FA DEs out there that could come in and allow us to get younger and better at that spot also. Avril for one who is my first choice, and Williams who personally I'm not really high on but he at least is a younger faster Will Smith.
