Question From the For What Its Worth dept...

Drew will sign a contract over the weekend, making him the highest paid player in the NFL,also the saints will tag NICKS,the saints have an offer to COLSTON,and would like to keep him,but BREES and NICKS were the most important.I hope this friend of a friend knows what he's talking about, just remember i'm just the messanger, with some info that may or may not be for real, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Don't shoot the messenger; I saw this and am just offering it for discussion.

Brees deal will most likely exhaust the cap.
I really don't see how a player with sound mind and body could just walk
away from an additional 15-25 million dollars for doing what he's going to
be doing anyways. Nicks already has a ring. What he needs now is a
retirement and a college fund. If Brees is safe the rest of the pieces can be
plug and play. I just hope the money doesn't jinx the juice. Not saying that
suddenly Brees starts to relax; but I am saying that over the years he has
avoided having his ankles rolled or falling funny under the weight of a sasquatch.
At some point the pendellum has to swing the other way.
It would be different if all that money could keep him safe.

I am all for Drew preserving himself. one thrown away pass is a fine
trade off for a long term super bowl caliber QB. Besides, he'll likely
get the first down or a touchdown on the next pass.

And you know, if Drew would be willing to take a little less than what he
could take, leaving money for the other guys, he could possibly
assure himself another RING. Then he'd have all sorts of extra opportunities
to make money. If he makes a jillion dollars, but the team fails to win anything,
the world will forget him. Pray to God he understands this.

I cant relax until I hear something good on this.

... take off the bullet-proof vest, that's exactly how the deal should go down, IMO. You keep Drew, you keep Nicks & he gets his money, Colston has an offer and decides if he wants to remain a member of the #1 passing offense in the NFL or take the risk of winding up somewhere else. I think Colston stays.

He already said he would. He will still be the highest paid player but he said he wants deals for Nicks and other core players as well. As of today the Saints and Brees are only 5million apart. Its progress.

Dude this is one of the most sound statements I have seen here in a while. You said what I couldn't find the right words to say. Which goes hand in hand with the point I can't blame the players, but I feel for the team. And ultimately the fans can suffer. The point is Brees was doing what he was doing earning what he was earning, 10 mil is not chump change. Do I feel people deserve increases based on their performance.....absolutely! But I guess the lack of employee/employer loyalty transcends into all business relationships.
