Exclamation Nothing good can come from this

That was the word coming out of the NFL scouting combine this past week, when Saints general manager Mickey Loomis tried to define Brees as “very good” when the quarterback was called “great,” according to three league sources. All three sources were asking Loomis why it was taking so long to sign Brees to a contract extension. Loomis’ answer spoke volumes.

Report: Saints want to pay Brees like a

I mentioned this story in another thread... if it's true then we're fu****. If it's posturing by Loomis and blah blah blah it's way too late in the process for that crap.

Aaaaaannnnd...we're effed.

Even if they keep the team together, no way the chemistry is as good as its been the past couple of years.

Hopefully I'm just being pessimistic (as I always am) but this just seems really bad to me...

Do the Saints think Chase is ready to take over? WOW. This is surreal.

Oh no he didn't! Don't tell me Loomis actually said that? It doesn't sound right. Is it posturing or is it insanity? If it is true then it is insane! I'm going to be sick.

I tried to see if it was taking out of context, which is often the case with stuff like this but it wasn't. I do however see his position, he's about to make the biggest purchase in Saints history or his career for that matter. I don't exspect him to show his cards until he absolutely has throw them on the table so in that sense I think he's doing a good job. Is a Porshe a great sports car? Yes and no. Compared to a Mustang yes. To a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, very good. My point is Tom Brady is the Ferrari... 3 SB victories and a couple more invites, I know it's a team game but that's 5SB appearances. Brees is very good when you look at it from that perspective which is exactly what Loomis should be doing. That's his job.

Doesn't somebody on here have a signature, "perspective is everything"? It is.

The league is set up with the salary caps for a reason, to promote parity among the teams and encourage these kind of situations ... keeps the fan base interested.

You can't win in this league without a QB, the Saints will sign Brees. If it is at the expense of losing a few other F/A's, you just gotta' trust the F/O will work to adjust for that. May take a few seasons, but they'll be working on getting it done before the end of Brees' next contract.

In the meantime, with the current talent level, you fall from 13-3-land to 10-6/9-7-ville, but you're still in the hunt in the NFC South.

Are there any recent 9-7 teams who went to the SuperBowl and won it? After the smoke clears, Saints will still have as good a chance as anybody. Better then most, acutally, when you take your QB into perspective.
