this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I think the consensus is that these 12 players will definitely be gone by the time we pick. 1. E.Manning -QB 2. B. Rothlisburger -QB 3. R.Gallery -LT 4. L.Fitzgerald -WR 5. Rg.Williams -WR 6. Ry. Williams-WR 7. M. Williams ...

1. E.Manning -QB
2. B. Rothlisburger -QB
3. R.Gallery -LT
4. L.Fitzgerald -WR
5. Rg.Williams -WR
6. Ry. Williams-WR
7. M. Williams -WR
8. S. Taylor -S
9.. V. Wilfork -DT
10. T. Harris -DT
11. K. Winslow -TE
12. K. Udeze -DE
I don’t think any of the above will slip to us. So realistically, with who’s left, which 5 players would you be happy with staying at #18? Here’s my top 5 I’d be very happy with…

1. D. Hall - CB
2. J. Vilma - LB
3. D. Robinson – CB
4. Will Smith – DE
5. DJ Williams – LB

If all 17 are gone when we pick, I think we should trade down.

Rivers is a good possibility to go before we pick. Also, N.E. could jump ahread to grab a RB before Dallas does

The same guy who I just argued with about Teddy Lehman, and questioned my knowledge about the game, thinks the Saints drafting a DE in the first round is a good thing. DE is the last thing this team needs, everyone knows that.

He\'s 4th on my list Mr. Observant! And the reason he\'s on my list is because I feel he fits into that BAP philosophy.
The last thing we needed was a Running Back when we drafted Deuce.
Oh, BTW: I didn\'t argue with you about Lehman.
Better prepare that next case Matlock...

Sounds like somebody\'s a little thin skinned around here.

What does me saying you don\'t have any idea what you\'re talking about, have to do with me being thin-skinned?

Yes, 4th on your list and he shouldn\'t be top 50 on the Saints\' list of guys to target at 17.. We are more than set at DE, we don\'t even have a minor need for depth at the position with Howard & Grant starting, and Whitehead, Bryant & Williams backing them up.

Ricky Williams wasnt all that great and was injury prone when Deuce was drafted. It may not of been a major need, but it sure was a much bigger need than a DE is now.

Yes, BAP is usually the best way to go. But not when it is for a guy who may be a backup to a backup for a year or two, at which point he may become a backup to two guys who aren\'t going anywhere. If everyone is gone when we pick (which won\'t be the case, but...) we should trade down before we even entertain the thought of drafting Will Smith.

Because it sounds like you\'re getting your panties wadded.

Well we actually pick at 18 Mel

Ricky Williams sucked and was injury prone when Deuce was drafted.
Yea, Deuce had that indestructable injury free tag applied to him pretty frequently didn\'t he? And Didn\'t Howard miss 10 games due to injury? So its fine to draft Deuce because our starter is injury prone and missed what 2 games?, but that same philosophy is stupid when applied to DE who missed 10 games and has been nicked up his whole career.
Lets try to keep up shall we. Your inconsistencies are becoming annoying.

Maybe the only thing I partly agree with. If a good trade down is available. Its also quite possible to trade Will Smith to someone and get extra picks too.
You think we might be able to get some extra picks for a top 10 talent DE?
NAW! Teams don\'t need a stud DE anymore huh?

Alright, so Howard isn\'t exactly the most healthy guy around. But we still have 3 guys behind him who would all start. We have much bigger needs, that is the point. Drafting a DE would be about as dumb as the whole Ricky Williams trade.

I don\'t think that \"heated\" and \"chill\" are two things someone can have/be at the same time...

You can have whatever debate you want of whatever kind you like so long as it is about football and not which posters you believe yourself to be smarter than.

Danno, just out of curiosity, why wouldn\'t you put DJ Williams ahead of Simth? Williams fills a need and has the same after the fact trade value that you point out for Simith.
