Maybe I'm in the minority but I watch football for the strategy, the action during the snap and the suspense of knowing that either team could score the ball and change the game on any given play. The violence doesn't mean much to me in football, maybe because I didn't play. I prefer to watch MMA if I want controlled violence.

violence has always been the appeal of football in america. that is what made it the game it is. to bad the nfl is out to destroy that part of the game. this keeps up i am turning to soccer.

What a crock! It stems from the machismo & bravado of playing a contact sport and man's propensity to wager over anything. I'm not a religious man (but I have been 'rulered' by a few nuns), weren't they playing dice at the foot of the cross over Jesus' cape? Wasn't there a 'bounty' on the the Son of God?

The cause is as old as time. It's the nature of men.

This is the biggest thing to happen for the media since O.J. trial.

I have to respectfully disagree. These guys are already making millions of dollars, a few hundred or a thousand doesn't motivate them to perform at a higher level. As Danno pointed out, it's players having fun, wagering, gambling. It's a rough sport and yes, it is kinda' morbid to raise it to the level of offering payments for an injury, but the reality is any of their careers could end on a single play. The Bounty program is how they deal with it.

Believe it or not, these small incentive payments, awarded at meetings where primarily the defensive players are viewing tape from the previous game, are referred to as "stripper money" because they are viewed as being small and insignificant, like a stack of one-dollar bills you'd take into a strip club.

One thing I know. No matter what punishment the league hands down, the practice won't stop.

The way I see it....this bounty thing has been goin' on since the inception of football...the problem is....Greg Williams was stupid enough to put some of it down in writing, so now something has to be done. And we get to be the scapegoats. Ugh. Thanks Greggie!
