The New Orleans Saints have announced the team had free agent LB Ian Gold (Broncos) in for a visit Wednesday, April 7.

I thought they weren't interested in Gold. Reports were that Gold was way under 220 now and not exactly 100% recovered.

Oh well. I'll just wait and see what happens.

Any current info on Gold?

It would be great to get Ian Gold. I believe he could play inside, and then we could worry about getting a weakside linebacker, or maybe a safety in the second round.

Why is this for me? I am happy about it though. Nice to see. Now we just have to sign him.

I thought you were the one banging the Ian Gold drum a few weeks back.

If the saints signed Gold I would say that they had a really good FA period

cross your fingers

I think Gold is a 100% WLB. At 6-0, 220lb soaking wet with full pads, he couldn\'t play inside.`
But he\'d be an ideal LB to back-up or replace Rodgers.
We\'d then draft a SLB like Donterrious Thomas.
Oh Yea..., my adrenaline is pumping now...

Hey Danno where did you get that info at ?

Hype was pretty huge around Gold at the beginning of free agency, then his weight was down and teams started talking about his lingering injuries. Last I heard the Saints and many other teams had decided to pass on him.

This could be a very interesting development. Gold\'s stock goes down and so does his price. The Saints sign a guy with great potential (and a proven season two years ago) for a comfortable price.

Hope this pans out.

p.s. We should still draft Rod Davis in the 2nd. :P

And From USA Today…

NEEDS/DRAFT PRIORITIES: LB: The Falcons remain interested in UFA WLB Ian Gold, late of Denver. He visited with Falcons officials March 10. The reason for the Falcons\' interest is speed. Gold has a lot of it, although has he comes off a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament, there\'s no way to be certain his playing style will be the same. Coach Jim Mora and other staffers consider the WLB position as important as any in the Atlanta defense. There are a few very fast LBs in the draft, but the Falcons don\'t seem likely to select one in the first round.

I don\'t think that Gold\'s size is too much of an issue. It depends on how you scheme for you MLB. Lots of teams are going with a speedier yet solid tackling MLB these days - if your D-line and OLBs can control the LOS, you just need a guy who can stick and wrap. Thus, I think Gold\'s injuries are far more of a point against him than his slightly smaller size.

Sign Gold, take D.Thomas in the 2nd along with Vilma in the 1st and our LB unit goes from being one of the worst, to the one of the best.
